The Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> haven’t really had a genuine No. 1 weapon for Justin Herbert for a long-time, but this offseason, that could change.<\/p>\n

With Mike McDaniel now the offensive coordinator, there is a thought that the Chargers, who still have a lot of cap space, might look to either get Herbert a new weapon or bolster his offensive line.<\/p>\n

But\u00a0NFL.com’s Matt Okada has an idea for L.A.<\/p>\n

He thinks the Chargers are a landing spot for A.J. Brown, and in a trade proposal, the Chargers send a 2026 first-round pick and Quentin Johnson in return for Brown.<\/p>\n

“Brown is a solid fit for new OC Mike McDaniel\u2019s offense, which has historically thrived on in-breaking routes,\u201d Okada wrote<\/a>. \u201cHe would be a threat at every level for \ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeffJustin Herbert\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff\ufeff — opening the offense up like it was early in the QB\u2019s career — and give the front office the freedom to offload Johnston.<\/p>\n

“It doesn\u2019t hurt that the Chargers currently have the third-most salary cap space in the league, giving them the leeway to pick up the veteran receiver’s sizeable salary.”<\/p>\n

Is Brown what Chargers need?<\/p>\n

As far as a dominant threat in the passing game, absolutely.<\/p>\n

But we have seen Brown be unhappy when he doesn’t get a decent amount of targets. Will he get that in McDaniel’s system?<\/p>\n

We know how key the run game is, so Brown might not get the volume of targets he wants, but I’d imagine the Chargers would do more than the Eagles<\/a> did last season to get Brown the ball.<\/p>\n

It is a move that the Chargers fans would like to see happen, but at the expense of a first-round pick and Johnson? That might be steep for some.<\/p>\n

But a player like Brown becoming available might make the Chargers think this is a move worth making.<\/p>\n
