MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. \u2014 Football is back for the Miami Dolphins.<\/p>\n
Well, sort of.<\/p>\n
The Dolphins joined the Buffalo Bills, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, Las Vegas Raiders, New York Giants, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Tennessee Titans as teams with a first-year head coach to kick-start the first phase of voluntary offseason workouts on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Head coach Jeff Hafley met with reporters for about half an hour at the Baptist Health Training Complex.<\/p>\n
In the NFL offseason program, Phase 1 is very limited and focused strictly on conditioning. <\/p>\n
Coaches aren\u2019t allowed to hold on-field team drills or football-specific practices.<\/p>\n
Players aren\u2019t allowed to wear football pads or helmets.<\/p>\n
Hafley mentioned early in the media availability that running back De\u2019Von Achane did not report.<\/p>\n
Achane is entering the final year of his rookie contract and is due for an extension.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m not going to dive into those thoughts right now. That\u2019s all like, honestly, that\u2019s part of the business,\u201d Hafley said. \u201cIt\u2019s part of what every team goes through in those situations and they\u2019ll work it out.\u201d<\/p>\n
Achane is coming off a career-high 2025 season, in which he earned his first Pro Bowl after rushing for 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns – tying his rookie-year total in 2023 – and averaging a league-best 5.7 yards per touch.<\/p>\n
Hafley was also asked about quarterback Malik Willis, whom the Dolphins signed to a three-year, $67.5 million deal, including $45 million in guaranteed money.<\/p>\n
\u201cYeah, I had a great conversation with him yesterday, he came to office. I said, don\u2019t change who you are. I said, don\u2019t put any extra pressure on yourself. You\u2019ve earned the right to be here and have this opportunity, and you\u2019ve done that by doing all the things the right way – don\u2019t change that,\u201d Hafley said. <\/p>\n
The Dolphins are banking on Willis, who replaces Tua Tagovailoa after six seasons with the team.<\/p>\n
Tagovailoa signed a one-year deal to join the Atlanta Falcons. <\/p>\n
Other notable offseason dates are the voluntary minicamp April 21\u201323, OTA workouts May 18\u201319, May 21, May 26\u201327, May 29, June 8\u20139, June 11, and mandatory minicamp June 2\u20133.<\/p>\n
