Jordan Love has proven to the Green Bay Packers<\/a> the importance of the backup quarterback position.<\/p>\n

Love has missed time across the past couple of seasons, which is what allowed Malik Willis to show he was a QB worthy of a big free agent contract from the Miami Dolphins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

With Willis gone, the Packers have some work to do to ensure they have a new, quality backup behind Love.<\/p>\n

This month’s NFL Draft will provide that opportunity, and ESPN’s Ben Solak<\/a> writes that the “perfect fit” for the Packers could come in the fifth round at pick 160: Taylen Green out of Arkansas.<\/p>\n

Green is an incredible athlete with shaky mechanics, which leads to Solak comparing him to Colin Kaepernick.<\/p>\n

“His throwing mechanics are extremely rough, making him more reminiscent of Colin Kaepernick than (Anthony) Richardson or (Cam) Newton,” Solak writes. “Green’s accuracy is predictably scattershot, and his inconsistency hitting layups makes it tough to build a reliable passing game around him. As such, any offense fielding Green would need to rely heavily on the QB running game; he should see 10-plus carries in any game he plays, a league-leading rate.”<\/p>\n

Willis was one of the best athletes at his position in the league. Green would be similar.<\/p>\n

“Under Matt LaFleur, the Packers have hugely prioritized athleticism at the QB2 spot,” Solak writes. “The outgoing Malik Willis is one of the league’s best dual-threat quarterbacks, but even QB3\u00a0Clayton Tune\u00a0was one of the best testers at his position. Behind\u00a0Jordan Love\u00a0are\u00a0Desmond Ridder\u00a0(another great tester) and\u00a0Sean Clifford, so the QB2 job is wide open.”<\/p>\n

For Green Bay to reach its ceiling, a long-term backup behind Love is crucial. Maybe the right choice is Green, not necessarily for his polish but for his raw ability.<\/p>\n
