Nwosu enters the final year of his three year $45 million contract.

Schneider doesn’t foresee doing anything with Uchenna Nwosu’s contract. Sounds like they’re OK with his $20M cap number — a product of the revised deal he signed last year. Schneider noted Nwosu’s leadership and how he got through 2025 healthy after two injury-plagued seasons.

The Seahawks came into the 2026 offseason with a roster decision with Nwosu because they could save $11,510,000 if they release him. His cap hit for the season is $20,018,334. However, this decision would also hurt the Seahawks depth at edge rusher for the season, which is already a position of potential need.

Nwosu had a productive season in 2026 with 35 combined tackles and 7 sacks. He also returned a touchdown in the postseason finale against the New England Patriots, helping the Seahawks win their second title in franchise history.

Nwosu came out of two straight seasons where he was injured. He managed to play all of the 2025 season. Nwosu also proved to be an inspiration in the locker room, which Schneider alluded to in his comments to the media.

With Boye Mafe leaving for the Cincinnati Bengals, the Seahawks need pass rush depth, so keeping Nwosu seems to be a prudent move for the organization.

The Seahawks currently rank 8th in the NFL in cap space at $34,105,279. The savings they receive from Nwosu would be redundant. The Seahawks have not signed too many free agents outside of retaining their own.

Seahawks Retain Most of the Dark Side Defense

GettyThe Seattle Seahawks have kept most of the darkside defense intact this offseason.

Despite losing Boye Mafe, Coby Bryant, and Tariq Woolen in free agency, the Seahawks defense largely looks the same entering 2026. Keeping Nwosu is just one of the key decisions they had to make this offseason.

Josh Jobe signed a three year $24 million contract this offseason to stay with the Seahawks. The Seahawks also tendered Ty Okada to an exclusive rights contract this offseason as well. Both were key players for the Seahawks to keep with them expected to let Bryant and Woolen walk at the time.

One addition the Seahawks made this offseason was with Rodney Thomas, who Mike MacDonald is excited about after Thomas left the Indianapolis Colts.

MacDonald said, “Shoutout to our pro personnel staff. I think it shows like the alignment we have with the coaches now like understanding the skill sets we’re looking for at the safety position. Haven’t been able to spend a lot of time with him, but from the tape I’m excited to add him to our group.”

Seahawks Plan to Address Edge Rusher in the Draft

GettyThe Seahawks plan to bring in R Mason Thomas for a predraft visit.

With the NFL Draft on the horizon, John Schneider plans on addressing many of the Seahawks needs through their draft picks. The Seahawks currently only have four picks in the NFL draft. They own their native picks for the first three rounds and only their sixth round pick on day three.

One potential area of concern is with the pass rush. While the Seahawks have Derrick Hall, Uchenna Nwosu, and Demarcus Lawrence committed to the roster, outside of those three, there are only Mike Morris and Rylie Mills on the roster as potential pass rushers.

They look to bring in someone with one of their draft picks based on their pre-draft visits. R Mason Thomas, Keyron Crawford, and Keyshawn James-Newby are slated to visit the organization before the draft.

Chris Lewis is a freelance sports writer based in Gig Harbor, Washington.
