{"id":861377,"date":"2026-04-08T18:28:30","date_gmt":"2026-04-08T18:28:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/861377\/"},"modified":"2026-04-08T18:28:30","modified_gmt":"2026-04-08T18:28:30","slug":"panthers-could-land-rashee-rice-like-talent-in-nfl-draft","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/861377\/","title":{"rendered":"Panthers Could Land Rashee Rice-Like Talent in NFL Draft"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6g\">In advance to the 2026 draft, which is only 15 days away,<a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/draft2026\/story\/_\/id\/48407219\/2026-nfl-draft-comps-best-prospect-pro-matches-comparisons\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> the ESPN NFL Staff <\/a>took 15 prospects and matched them up with either current players or those from the past.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">\u201cThough it can be hard to project how NFL draft prospects will fare in the pros (via ESPN), we can get a better sense of their future by making one-to-one comparisons. So we asked a number of our NFL draft analysts and college football experts to pick their favorite prospect-to-player comparisons for the 2026 class.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">\u201cTheir comps were made based on style of play, physical measurements, production and versatility\u2014or some combination of all those traits. ESPN NFL analyst Field Yates said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/chiefs\/onsi\/3-immediate-observations-after-ruling-kansas-city-rashee-rice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">he drew an on-field comp to Kansas City Chiefs\u2019 wideout Rashee Rice.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ohio State WR Omar Cooper Jr. has a Super Bowl champion comp<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/01knq23g66awfyz4f25q.jpg\" alt=\"Omar Cooper\" title=\"Omar Cooper\" width=\"7952\" height=\"4473\" class=\"undefined w-full w-full blur-[5px]\" q:id=\"7d\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Feb 27, 2026; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Indiana wideout Omar Cooper Jr. (WO17) speaks to members of the media during the NFL Combine at the Indiana Convention Center. Mandatory Credit: Jacob Musselman-Imagn Images | Jacob Musselman \/ USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7h\">\u201cCooper had a breakout season for Indiana in 2025,\u201d explained Yates, \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/omar-cooper-jr-1.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">hauling in 13 receiving touchdowns. <\/a>Over 50 percent of his receiving yards in 2025 were yards (after) the catch, the area of his game that best mirrors Rice\u2019s skill set. Cooper does an excellent job of setting up blocks. He\u2019s patient, has good vision and shows the overall contact balance to chew up yards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7k\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/prospects\/omar-cooper-jr.\/3200434f-4f81-6508-8d25-d53079bd0711\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Meanwhile, NFL.com\u2019s Lance Zierlein did his own comparison for Cooper. <\/a>He chose wideout Deebo Samuel, who is currently unsigned. \u201cBig, strong target whose two-year rise is bolstered by translatable tape,\u201d said Zierlein in regards to the former Hoosier. \u201cWhile he was a full-time slot receiver in 2025, Cooper has played outside, as well. He can stem and drive past press with his strength. Vasquez-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"81\">\u201cHis routes lack polish and he has average in-and-out quickness at break-points,\u201d added Zierlein, \u201cbut he\u2019s rugged once the ball is in his hands. His ability to add yards after contact could earn Cooper more carries than we saw from him at Indiana. Fighting for catch space and blocking for the running game are areas where he needs improvement. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/news\/2026-nfl-draft-every-teams-full-set-of-picks\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cooper is an ascending slot bully with Day 2 value<\/a>.\u201d Carolina has picks in the second (No. 51) and third (No. 83) rounds.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"84\">The Panthers have spent two first-round picks in as many years on wide receiver.
