You can excuse some of the bad habits because of their potential. But it’s vital that NFL teams be wary of this, and focus on the player and not the helmet. This is the case with Alabama’s Kadyn Proctor, who is touted by many as one of the better offensive tackle prospects in this class, but are we sure? Let’s talk about it.

Proctor, a former five-star recruit out of Southeast Polk High School in Des Moines, Iowa, helped anchor a state title during his tenure. He would originally commit to Iowa before flipping to Alabama. He would start all 13 games as a true freshman, earning All-SEC Freshman team honors. After Nick Saban retired, he technically transferred to Iowa for three whole months before returning to the Crimson Tide.

For a player of his size (352 lbs), Kadyn Proctor tested very well at the combine. 32.5-inch vertical, 109-inch broad jump are great numbers for any lineman, let alone someone with Proctor’s build. He’s got an anchor on him, and when he drops it, power rushers aren’t going anywhere. Strong hands paired with a thick base make him the definition of a road-grader in the run game, which is where he excels. He’s a monster on power run plays, which is an Alabama speciality. NFL teams will love his three years of SEC starting experience, too.

Maybe this is just a matter of personal preference, but I don’t love that Proctor committed to the same school twice, then left them high and dry. Just might not show a massive level of commitment. The biggest red flag with Proctor is how poorly he looks in pass protection. He is a roller coaster of a blocker in pass pro, with some snaps being great and others looking like he’s learning the position. Footwork is sloppy, kick back is choppy, and he gets way too narrow when set. Also worth noting is the conditioning concerns, as he got up to 370 lbs this season, and it showed in his tape as he struggled mightily early on this season.

Kadyn Proctor will have just turned 21 when training camps get underway, so there is a lot of time for him to really develop. However, there are just a few too many red flags for me to warrant a good grade. Proctor is much further down my board than most, earning him an early-third round grade.

Expert NFL picks: Exclusive betting insights only at USA TODAY.

April 8, 2026, 7:25 p.m. CT When scouting offensive linemen, it’s hard not to be naturally drawn to…

[3
95878,7,6,97234,97235,95882,98203,95896,96097,95888,95899,96099,95883,95881
0":"post-861891","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-nfl","8":"tag-accessfree","9":"tag-football","10":"tag-nfl","11":"tag-sstssportsnflvikings","12":"tag-sstsnvikings","13":"tag-tagamerican-football","14":"tag-tagiowa","15":"tag-tagnational-sports","16":"tag-tagncaa-southeastern-conference","17":"tag-tagnfl","18":"tag-tagoverall-neutral","19":"tag-tagsec-conference-football","20":"tag-tagsports-news","21":"tag-typestory
["GET
