There could be several willing partners when the draft finally rolls around.<\/p>\n<p>Per Fox Sports\u2019 Jordan Schultz, \u201cseveral executives\u201d expect a \u201cflurry of activity\u201d in Round 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe expectation among many NFL teams is that the 2026 draft will be one of the more trade-heavy drafts in recent memory, according to multiple league sources,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Schultz_Report\/status\/2041993020481159447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Schultz reported<\/a> on X on April 8. \u201cSpecifically, on the defensive side of the ball \u2014 EDGE, CB and LB are all strong\/deep \u2014 while WR is typically considered to be the most talented offensive position.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdditionally, because this specific draft lacks depth in the later rounds, many teams plan to pursue extra Day 2 and early Day 3 picks, per league sources.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The expectation among many NFL teams is that the 2026 draft will be one of the more trade-heavy drafts in recent memory, according to multiple league sources. <\/p>\n<p>Specifically, on the defensive side of the ball \u2014 EDGE, CB and LB are all strong\/deep \u2014 while WR is typically <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is music to Nick Caserio\u2019s ears,\u201d the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jonmalexander\/status\/2041993453093982665\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Houston Chronicle\u2019s Jonathan M. Alexander posted<\/a> in reaction to Schultz\u2019s report.<\/p>\n<p>The latter portion of the report could be most relevant to the Texans, who traded out of the first round last season, allowing the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-york-giants\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Giants<\/a> to move up for <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/jaxson-dart\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jaxson Dart<\/a>. Houston ended up selecting <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/aireontae-ersery\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Aireonae Ersery<\/a> in the second round with their first pick (48th overall).<\/p>\n<p>Alexander said he would bet the \u201cover\u201d on three trades by the Texans in the 2026 draft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNick Caserio has never made fewer than 3 draft-day trades in any draft since arriving to Houston in 2021,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/jonmalexander\/status\/2041995528351744435\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Alexander posted<\/a> in response to Over The Cap\u2019s Troy Chapman.<\/p>\n<p>The Texans have eight picks as of April 8. They own seven picks outside of the opener, with two picks each in Rounds 2 and 5. That could change, knowing our track record, we\u2019re moving around the board. We just create flexibility and optionality for ourselves,\u201d Caserio said on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/PatMcAfeeShow\/status\/2027086519673004370\" rel=\"nofollow\">The Pat McAfee Show<\/a>\u201d in February.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe try to take it case-by-case. So, we\u2019ll deal with free agency. And then, once we get through free agency, take a little snapshot of the team. And then, once we get to the draft, honestly, we\u2019re just picking the best players that we feel are going to help us over the course of our program.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Texans crossed off their needs with at least serviceable starters in free agency.<\/p>\n<p>They can truly take the best-player-available approach, which also means their trade options are open, including if they see a target they like begin to slide closer into their range.<\/p>\n<p>Texans\u2019 List of Visitors Growing<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5021104\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5021104\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Nick-Caserio-e1715328839653.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5021104\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyHouston Texans general manager Nick Caserio walks on the field before a game.<\/p>\n<p>Like every other team\u2013and for various reasons\u2013Caserio and the Texans have been getting closer looks at prospects in the 2026 draft class via pro days and private meetings.<\/p>\n<p>They met with Indiana running back and national champion <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/denver-broncos\/hoosiers-black-draft-dobbins-harvey\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Kaelon Black<\/a> on Wednesday, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AaronWilson_NFL\/status\/2041881930526777363\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">per Wilson<\/a>. The Texans have also met with Missouri EDGE <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/zion-young-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Zion Young<\/a>, Georgia defensive tackle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/christen-miller-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Christen Miller<\/a>, and Miami defensive back <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/keionte-scott-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Keionte Scott<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>UTSA\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/shadrach-banks-1.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Shad Banks<\/a> has been invited to the Texans\u2019 local pro day.<\/p>\n<p>There are fewer than two weeks until the draft (Round 1 takes place on April 23).
