What Monken had to say about Garrett\u2019s absence<\/p>\n
“If you asked every coach in the NFL would they like every player to be there, of course,\u201d Monken said. \u201cThere’s certain stuff that we do from a connection standpoint that I think is important to be here, from a schematic standpoint, from a work standpoint, not so much.\u201d<\/p>\n
It\u2019s very common for Garrett to skip this portion of the offseason. The team isn\u2019t on the field. Instead, they\u2019re in the weight room and meetings, laying the groundwork for the season.<\/p>\n
It feels notable that Monken confessed that \u201cevery coach\u201d would like every player to be there, implying that he wished Garrett would have been in attendance. However, Garrett\u2019s constant absences have never negatively impacted his performance on the field, as his greatness has only elevated every year.<\/p>\n
\u201cMyles will be ready,\u201d Monken said. \u201cI’m not worried about Myles.”<\/p>\n
Prior to last season ending, Garrett publicly endorsed former Browns defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz to be promoted to head coach. The veteran defender reminded reporters that he was committed to the Browns as long as the team was still prioritizing winning games \u2013 not rebuilding.<\/p>\n
Garret\u2019s choice, Schwartz, was passed over<\/a> in favor of Monken.
