That move alone will help take the offense to the next level.

While the addition of Evans will vastly improve the wide receiver room from last season, it’s possible that San Francisco isn’t done pursuing upgrades at the position.

Keeping that in mind, a new prediction has been made that would see the 49ers invest even heavier into Purdy and the offense. It would involve the team targeting a wide receiver in the first round of the upcoming 2026 NFL Draft.

49ers Predicted to Land Another Playmaker in NFL Draft

CBS Sports has released a new seven-round mock draft. In that mock draft, they have San Francisco selecting Texas A&M standout wide receiver KC Concepcion with the No. 27 overall pick.

“KC Concepcion offers the schematic flexibility to play inside or outside. Kyle Shanahan will put him in the best position to succeed in a revamped receiver room that no longer includes staples such as Jauan Jennings, Deebo Samuel or Brandon Aiyuk.”

Concepcion would be able to come in and replace Jauan Jennings. Evans would be the replacement for what Brandon Aiyuk was supposed to be.

After a successful three-year college career, Concepcion is one of the wide receivers positioned to be an impact player right off the bat in the NFL. If the 49ers truly want to boost the offense even more, taking him in the first round would make a lot of sense.

What Would KC Concepcion Bring to the 49ers’ Offense?

During the 2025 college football season with the Aggies, Concepcion racked up 61 receptions for 919 yards and nine touchdowns. He totaled 185 catches, 2,218 yards, and 25 touchdowns in his three years in college.

The Ringer’s Todd McShay revealed his projection for Concepcion at the next level. It’s a take that should excite San Francisco fans about potentially bringing him onboard.

“Chicago’s Luther Burden is slightly taller and thicker than Concepcion, and Indianapolis’s Josh Downs is slightly smaller but faster,” McShay wrote.

“As a dynamic slot receiver who stresses defensive backs with his burst off the line and body control to uncover quickly, Concepcion shares a lot of similarities with both players. But Concepcion’s special trait is his ability to create after the catch. Staying healthy and improving his ball skills (particularly in traffic) are the challenges, but Concepcion is ready to make an immediate impact as a receiver and returner.”

It will be interesting to see what the San Francisco 49ers choose to do in the first round. Concepcion may not end up being the pick, but he would make a lot of sense as a potential target.

Evan Massey Evan Massey is a sports reporter and analyst located in Indianapolis, Indiana who covers the NFL, NBA, MLB, WNBA, and college sports.
