For a group that is comprised of a third-round pick, a fifth-round pick, and a player who was good five years ago, there shouldn’t be much to talk about.

However, this is going to be the most covered quarterback battle that will have very little relevance on the NFL season as a whole. As it stands right now and depending on where you get your reporting, Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson are the two front-runners in the battle, with Dillon Gabriel trailing as the third stringer.

<img alt="Jan 4, 2026; Cincinnati, Ohio, USA; Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders (12) looks to pass during the first half against the Cleveland Browns at Paycor Stadium. He complimented the room, saying that they were all “bright-eyed” and ready to learn. He went on further to say that each player has displayed something in the past couple of years that is enough to like. Whether it was some of the good Deshaun games back in 2023, or some of Shedeur’s explosive plays at the end of 2025, or even Gabriel’s approach when he had his chances last year.

Monken doesn’t have the best ball of clay at his disposal, but what he does have is a group of players who are all desperate for whatever reason. For Watson, this is his last chance at playing. If he shows that he still doesn’t have it, he will not get another crack in this league and will fade to darkness.

Sanders and Gabriel have to prove themselves in this league. Both did things well last year, and both had moments where you really questioned how they were on an NFL field.

For now, with their new coach, they are all off to a good start. Cleveland plans on addressing the offensive side of the football in this draft and then giving the keys to one of these three guys to see if they can be their quarterback of the future before next year’s quarterback-heavy draft.

The group couldn’t have had a better start, and their responsibility now is to stack good days on top of each other.

This article originally appeared on Browns Wire: Browns’ QB room could not have had a “better start” with Todd Monken

The Cleveland Browns quarterback room is going to be one of the most talked-about position groups in the…

[2054
86,85,54,2337,563,1033,7,6,25106,17,23813
0":"post-862715","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-cleveland-browns","8":"tag-browns","9":"tag-cleveland","10":"tag-cleveland-browns","11":"tag-clevelandbrowns","12":"tag-deshaun-watson","13":"tag-dillon-gabriel","14":"tag-football","15":"tag-nfl","16":"tag-quarterback-battle","17":"tag-shedeur-sanders","18":"tag-todd-monken
["GET
