Watt Trade Landing Spot, But Would It Even Be Worth It?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6j\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/chargers\/\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Los Angeles Chargers<\/a> take measured swings when <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/chargers\/onsi\/chargers-will-trade-down-during-nfl-draft-reasons\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Jim Harbaugh strikes a trade<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6m\">When the Chargers made the \u201csplash\u201d for Odafe Oweh last season, they only gave up a fifth-round pick. And when they found a starter via trade with safety Elijah Molden, the cost was a mere seventh-round pick.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6p\">Something like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/chargers\/onsi\/nfl-trade-speculation-chargers-target-cowboys-george-pickens\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">trading for Cowboys star George Pickens<\/a>? Probably not happening.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6s\">Mike McDaniel has yet to show outsiders what he wants to do at wideout as he installs Justin Herbert\u2019s new offense. But a Pickens-like move isn\u2019t coming.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-4\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6v\">On the defensive side, though, the Chargers need to think about the coordinator transition from Jesse Minter to Chris O\u2019Leary.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-5\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6y\">What if someone like Pittsburgh Steelers superstar T.J. Watt becomes available?<\/p>\n<p>Chargers trading for T.J. Watt: Does it even need to happen?<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/01knw47nh15bag6tk2as.jpg\" alt=\"Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt\" title=\"Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker T.J. Watt\" width=\"5722\" height=\"3218\" class=\"undefined w-full w-full blur-[5px]\" q:id=\"7b\"\/><\/p>\n<p>T.J. Watt | Mitch Stringer-Imagn Images<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7f\">Watt is one of those names making the rounds, theorized as possibly on the NFL trade block this offseason.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-9\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7i\">The Chargers are on the minds of those doing said theorizing because they lost a big name like Joey Bosa one year ago and generally get viewed as in win-now mode.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7l\">Writing about NFL stars \u201cwho could actually be traded\u201d this offseason, Bleacher Report\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25416301-aj-brown-and-8-nfl-stars-who-could-actually-be-traded\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Gary Davenport<\/a> listed Watt and had the Chargers top the list of fits.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7o\">\u201cTo be clear, moving Watt for anything less than a first-round pick\u2014even with his sizable contract\u2014would be selling low,\u201d Davenport wrote. \u201cIt is also fair to question whether the current version of the Steelers, even with Aaron Rodgers, profiles as a legitimate Super Bowl contender.\u201d<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7r\">Say the Steelers open up the phone lines on Watt: Would the Chargers even call about the price for the sake of due diligence?<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7u\">Watt is 31 years old and missed a few games last year. Over 14 appearances, he landed on a 74.2 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pff.com\/nfl\/players\/tj-watt\/11785\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Pro Football Focus grade<\/a>, 31st out of 115 edge defenders. His pressures (46) were 36th out of 115.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-14\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7x\">Watt is, by the way, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/overthecap.com\/player\/t-j-watt\/5614\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">Over the Cap<\/a>, on a $123 million contract extension that has a cap number of $42 million or more each year through 2028.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"80\">Historically, the Chargers don\u2019t do these types of deals. General manager Joe Hortiz couldn\u2019t even be bothered to avoid the NFL draft compensatory pick formula heavily while signing free agents during this key offseason stretch.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"83\">Plus, the Chargers like the edge room right now. Khalil Mack is back for at least one more year. Tuli Tuipulotu, a contract extension candidate this summer, just posted 13 sacks after 8.5 in 2024. They\u2019re still hoping 2025 fourth-rounder Kyle Kennard develops.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-17\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"86\">The Chargers value draft picks too much for a move like this. They only have five draft picks in this class. One report has already <a href=\"https:\/\/www.si.com\/nfl\/chargers\/onsi\/nfl-draft-news-fan-favorite-prospect-chargers-gabe-jacas\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\" target=\"_blank\">circled a pass-rusher the Chargers could draft in red<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-18\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"89\">Watt on the Chargers sounds good. It\u2019s what an \u201call-in\u201d team would do. A desperate, all-in team, anyway. Hortiz, Harbaugh and the Chargers just don\u2019t move like that.
