It’s a great day for baseball fans? Yes, you read that right. Denver Broncos<\/a> owners Greg Penner and Carrie Walton Penner expanded their sports portfolio, acquiring a 40% stake<\/a> in the MLB’s Colorado Rockies on Friday.<\/p>\n

The acquisition will change nothing in terms of the Penner’s involvement in the day-to-day operations of the Broncos as they rocket into the 2026 season and beyond. They will not have operational roles or day-to-day duties with the Rockies, according to the Denver Post’s Peter Gabriel<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In a statement made by the Penners announcing the investment, they doubled down on their commitment to excellence in Colorado sports.<\/p>\n

“We are excited to expand our commitment to the Denver sports community through a partnership with the Colorado Rockies,” the statement read. “While our focus remains firmly on the Broncos<\/a>, we look forward to being supportive, long-term partners of the Rockies and Major League Baseball.”<\/p>\n

Now, to be clear, this is not an investment by the Walton-Penner ownership group<\/a>, which owns the Denver Broncos<\/a>. This is an investment made by the Penner Sports Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is also not the first foray into MLB for a member of the Walton-Penner family. Rob Walton holds a 10% stake in the Arizona Diamondbacks. Though the two may be linked on the football field, their respective teams are bitter baseball rivals. We don’t think it will create any animosity, though.<\/p>\n

For baseball fans, it gives a glimmer of hope that the Penners can transform the Rockies, who were the worst team in the MLB in 2025. Fans in Denver would love to see the Penners help bring the Rockies to the championship aspirations shared by many of Colorado’s other sports teams.<\/p>\n
