It’s a foregone conclusion that 2023 first-round draft picks Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell will both be part of the Detroit Lions<\/a>‘ long-term future plans.<\/p>\n

Gibbs is a three-time Pro Bowler and Campbell just captured the Butkus Award and first-team All-Pro honors. It’s a no-brainer to keep that pair of stars in the fold into their second contracts.<\/p>\n

But, will the Lions ink extensions with the duo or could fifth-year options be possibilities?<\/p>\n

As former first-round picks in the 2023 NFL draft, both Gibbs and Campbell are eligible to receive fifth-year options. What would fifth-year options cost the Lions in 2027 for each?<\/p>\n

Potential fifth-year option cost for RB Jahmyr Gibbs<\/p>\n

2027 fifth-year option: $14.3 million<\/p>\n

According to Spotrac<\/a>, a fifth-year option for Gibbs would cost $14.293 million.<\/p>\n

Potential fifth-year option cost for LB Jack Campbell<\/p>\n

2027 fifth-year option: $21.9 million<\/p>\n

According to Spotrac<\/a>, a fifth-year option for Campbell would cost $21.925 million.<\/p>\n

According to\u00a0OverTheCap.com<\/a>, the 2020 collective bargaining agreement allows teams to exercise a fifth-year option for players drafted in the first round as an addition to the standard four-year rookie contract. Upon being exercised, the fifth-year option is fully guaranteed, and any base salary in the player’s fourth year that was not fully guaranteed will become so. The fifth-year salary is calculated based on four tiers: basic, playing time, one Pro Bowl and multiple Pro Bowls.<\/p>\n
