He earned an 80.9 Pro Football Focus grade.

The Jets are likely keeping a close eye on the incoming safety class, considering they don’t have too many long-term options currently on the roster.

Can Cole Wisniewski be the Jets’ long-term plan at safety?

The Jets addressed the safety position with several moves at the start of free agency. They re-signed veteran Andre Cisco to a one-year deal after injuries cut his season short in New York last year. They also signed former New York Giants safety Dane Belton to a one-year pact.

Of course, the biggest acquisition was Minkah Fitzpatrick, whom Darren Mougey flipped a seventh-round pick to the Miami Dolphins for the morning the legal tampering period was set to open. He’s expected to lead the back end of the Jets defense, but maybe not from the safety position.

Fitzaptrick indicated at his first media availability as a Jet that he’ll primarily be playing nickel cornerback, keeping him closer to the line of scrimmage, and of course, closer to the football.

With the Jets’ only other safety being 2025 fourth-round pick Malachi Moore, who played well at times last season, but not enough to warrant being handed a starting job, the Jets need to continue working on the position group to ensure stability in the future.

Enter Wisniewski, who projects to be a later Day 3 selection. He won’t be asked to play right away, but can take the time to learn the pro game as he sits and develops behind veterans like Fitzpatrick, Cisco, and Belton.

It also wouldn’t be a surprise if the Jets went after one of the higher-rated safety prospects with one of their picks in the first two rounds. Oregon’s Dillon Thieneman and Toledo’s Emmanuel McNeil-Warren come to mind as potential early options.

It all depends on how the draft board shakes out, but expect the Jets to take a swing at safety in the 2026 NFL Draft, whether that’s Wisniewski or a different prospect.

The New York Jets are hosting Texas Tech safety Cole Wisniewski on a Top 30 pre-draft visit, according…

[2051
7,226,1917,255,2321,2097,6
0":"post-864489","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-new-york-jets","8":"tag-football","9":"tag-jets","10":"tag-new-york","11":"tag-new-york-jets","12":"tag-newyork","13":"tag-newyorkjets","14":"tag-nfl
["GET
