Andre Chachere made a brief stop with the Detroit Lions<\/a> early in his career, enduring a trying stretch where he was cut more than 10 times over three years before finally appearing in his first NFL.<\/p>\n Now, after close to a decade, Chachere is deciding to call it quits.<\/p>\n The 30-year-old officially filed for retirement, ending a career that saw him appear in 46 total games with six starts. Chachere had not seen NFL action since the 2023 season, bouncing around on practice squads in recent years.<\/p>\n Andre Chachere\u2019s Unusual NFL Career Comes to an End<\/p>\n Chachere first game into the NFL with the Houston Texans<\/a> as an undrafted free agent in 2018, spending time on their practice squad that fall before landing with the Lions late that season. He was waived by the Lions in December, part of a long string of releases before he finally appeared in his first NFL game with the Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> in the 2021 season.<\/p>\n Chachere appeared in 16 games for the Eagles that season with one start, making 15 total tackles while appearing mostly on special teams. Chachere ended up playing two seasons with the Eagles and two with the Arizona Cardinals<\/a>, making 51 total tackles with three passes defensed during his career, spending most of his time on special teams.<\/p>\n The former San Jose State defensive back had a strong collegiate career, playing in 49 games with 32 starts over four seasons. He was a three-year starter at cornerback for the Spartans, but flashed some versatility as he spent time at nickel back, safety, and linebacker. He earned an invite to play in the 2018 NFLPA All-Star Game, but flew below the NFL draft radar and was not taken after his senior season.<\/p>\n As NFL.com draft expert Lance Zierlein<\/a> noted at the time, Chachere had the ablity to become an \u201cNFL contributor,\u201d but had some deficiencies to work on.<\/p>\n \u201cChachere is an athletic outside cornerback with average size and speed and adequate short-area quickness to match routes and challenge throws,\u201d Zierlein wrote. \u201cHis 2016 tape was better than 2017 so how teams weigh those two seasons will be critical. Chachere plays with good intelligence and anticipation and generally handles his job. His issues playing the deep ball mean he needs to run well to prove he has recovery potential.\u201d<\/p>\n Andre Chachere Was Grateful During NFL Career<\/p>\n Chachere seemed to take his winding NFL career in stride, saying in 2022 that he was grateful for the Eagles finally giving him a chance to join an active roster and play in games.<\/p>\n \u201cAny opportunity I get, I\u2019m very thankful,\u201d Chachere said, via NBC Sports Philadelphia<\/a>. \u201cEspecially around Thanksgiving time, you like to count your blessings.<\/p>\n \u201cEvery time I\u2019ve been let go and picked up, I\u2019m always thankful, whether it\u2019s just a workout, practice squad, finally making a roster, whatever it is, I\u2019m just thankful for the opportunity, and I\u2019ll never take it for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n Chachere recalled all the stops he took in the NFL before finally landing with the Eagles, who found him a place in the secondary and on special teams coverage units.<\/p>\n \u201cStarted with Houston and went to Detroit and then went to Arizona, then to Carolina and back to Arizona, and then to Indianapolis and then here,\u201d he said with a laugh. \u201cCrazy.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tNathan Dougherty<\/a> is a sports reporter covering the NFL for Heavy.com, with a focus on the Buffalo Bills, Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins.
