There are ample options at these two selections; however, some perfect prospects fall just between this range. Meaning, the Saints are in a prime position to trade back – the first time since 2007.

The trade estimations will vary, but a trade back around 5 spots (pick 13), would net them approximately a third round pick. This should entice Mickey Loomis and help persuade him to do the unthinkable, acquire more value.

With that said, it’s time to dive into three prospects the Saints should consider trading back for.

The Saints need to consider KC Concepcion in round oneKC Concepcion

KC Concepcion is a perfect fit for the Saints – being an explosive after the catch threat- but isn’t a refined enough route runner to be the option at pick eight. Conversely, his prowess between the hashes and constant big-play threat leave little chance he’s available at number 42. As a result, he’s a prime option for Kellen Moore if the Saints decide to move back.

Dillon Thieneman

The Saints’ search for Tyrann Mathieu’s successor at safety has been unsuccessful, with Justin Reid and Marcus Maye not panning out, but that could have changed with Dillon Thieneman. The former Oregon Duck pairs impressive range and ball skills with an elite trigger and tackling ability against the run. He’s not strong enough in man coverage to warrant the eighth overall pick, but is still worthy of a first-round selection. He’s currently projected in the mid-teens, so trading back approximately five spots would be perfect.

Avieon Terrell

Avieon Terrell would be a quintessential replacement for Alontae Taylor. Terrell’s versatility and impact in all three phases: coverage, run defense and blitzing, make him an ideal candidate for the STAR role on Brandon Staley’s defense. The Clemson alum had nine pass breakups, five forced fumbles, 4.5 tackles for loss and three sacks in 2025 – eerily similar to Taylor’s archetype. Despite this, his small frame, five-foot-11, 186 pounds, and lack of strength make it challenging to warrant a top-10 selection.

The New Orleans Saints’ first two picks in the 2026 NFL Draft sit at eight and 42.
