I’ve talked to a bunch of scouts, he is just not worth the second pick in the draft. To me, that would be a major reach. He is a wide receiver who wasn’t even the best receiver on his team. He ran a tick slow at the combine. I just wouldn’t pick a guy like that at No. 2,” Cimini explained on the “Jets Collective” podcast.

ESPN radio host Jake Asman explained to Cimini the perspective of some Jets fans on social media.

“There is a lot of fans who would love them to just say, look, we need a wide receiver, just take Carnell Tate at [No.] 2 and let’s get a defensive player at [No.] 16. Or maybe we move up for a defensive player, and it’s easier to go that way if you want to go offense at [No.] 2,” Asman added.

.@RichCimini warned the #Jets about taking Ohio State WR Carnell Tate at No. 2:

‘Carnell Tate would be a mistake at 2. So you can find guys a little lower down at wide receiver,” Cimini said on the “Jets Collective” podcast.

For example, the Jets hosted Washington wide receiver Denzel Boston for a visit on Saturday, April 12, according to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz.

Source: Washington WR Denzel Boston is visiting the #Jets today after spending Friday with the #Ravens.

The 6-4, 212-pounder earned All-Big Ten honors with his 11 TDs and is considered a 1st-round pick.

According to the consensus big board, Boston is the No. 30 overall-ranked prospect in this class. If the Jets pulled the trigger with the No. 16 overall pick in the first round, that would be a considerable reach.

However, if they can get him with the No. 33 overall pick in the second round, that would be appropriate value and even a little bit of a steal.

When you wait, though, there is inherent risk. There is a 17-pick gap between the Jets’ picks on day one and day two. A lot can happen during that period of time.

Are the Jets feeling lucky? Do they just wait until pick No. 33 and hope one of those wide receivers falls into that range?

There is a pocket of those players that include:

Insider Confirms Team’s Interest

ESPN’s Rich Cimini confirmed on the “Jets Collective” podcast that there is one receiver who has caught the team’s eye.

“They do like Cooper. Omar Cooper: a physical receiver, blocks his [expletive] off, an Aaron Glenn type of player, highly productive at Indiana,” Cimini said.

We just don’t know exactly how much they like him. There have been conflicting reports out there.

ESPN’s Jordan Reid said the team is “extremely high” on Cooper and views him as an “ideal” WR2 to Garrett Wilson.

That type of phrasing seems to suggest they would take him with the No. 16 overall pick. However, Insider Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports said they do like him, but they wouldn’t take him any earlier than the No. 33 overall pick in the second round.

Paul Esden Jr. covers the New York Jets for Heavy.com.
