When the New York Jets franchise tagged Breece Hall before the start of free agency, it sparked a mixed reaction from NFL analysts<\/a> and fans about why the Jets would want to keep their running back in the fold for another season.<\/p>\n

After all, it’s the Jets, and they aren’t allowed to have good players. New York should’ve done Hall a favor and let him walk as an unrestricted free agent to sign with a team better capable of utilizing his services.<\/p>\n

Well, even with the Jets’ intentions to bring back Hall<\/a> on a long-term deal, the trade proposals haven’t stopped, and the latest one from Fox Sports sends him out to the Seattle Seahawks as a replacement for Kenneth Walker.<\/p>\n

The problem isn’t the return in the proposal, but the reasoning behind the trade, and why the Jets should look to move their starting running back.<\/p>\n

Breece Hall trade idea cites Jets being losers as reasoning to move on<\/p>\n

Ralph Vacchiano’s proposed trade<\/a> would see the Jets ship Hall to Seattle, getting back a 2026 third and a 2027 fifth-round pick. New York was reportedly unwilling to move Hall at the 2025 trade deadline unless they got a third-round pick, so at least that asking price gets met here.<\/p>\n

However, it’s not the compensation that’s the problem here, though. It’s Vacchiano’s reasoning.<\/p>\n

“A running back like Hall is an unnecessary luxury for a team like the Jets headed for the bottom of the standings, but he could instantly make the Seahawks an even bigger threat to repeat as Super Bowl champs.”<\/p>\n

The Jets aren’t necessarily “headed” for the bottom of the standings. It’s not like they intend on tanking in 2026; in fact, it’s quite the opposite. <\/a>Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey’s jobs likely depend on how they perform in 2026. If they don’t show any signs of life, Woody Johnson is probably cleaning house, again.<\/p>\n

Glenn and Mougey know this and are doing everything in their power to put a winning product on the field next season. Trading Hall would not get them any closer to their goal.<\/p>\n

The Jets aren’t in dire need of draft capital. They have plenty of picks<\/a> over the next two years to help them build their team out on the road to contention.
