Jimmy Garoppolo became a free agent, leaving the primary backup spot for Matthew Stafford<\/a> open. Kyler Murray\u2019s arrival to the Minnesota Vikings could signal a potential departure for J.J. McCarthy, with Los Angeles Rams emerging as an ideal destination for him.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Vikings sure look like they\u2019ve moved on from the former 10th overall pick (2024) by signing Kyler Murray. Given Vikings coach Kevin O\u2019Connell\u2019s success rate with QBs, maybe that\u2019s a red flag for the rest of the NFL,\u201d Ralph Vacchiano of FOX Sports wrote.<\/p>\n

Between injuries and strong performances<\/p>\n

After missing his entire 2024 rookie year due to meniscus surgery, J.J. McCarthy had a turbulent first season on the field in 2025. He appeared in 10 games, completing 57.6% of his passes for 1,632 yards, 11 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. <\/p>\n

His campaign was significantly hampered by health issues, including an ankle injury that sidelined him from Week 3 through Week 8, a concussion that forced him to miss Week 13, and a hand injury that kept him out of Week 17. Despite showing flashes of potential, McCarthy finished the season with a 72.6 passer rating as he adjusted to the physical demands of the NFL.<\/p>\n

Search for Garoppolo or new talent?<\/p>\n

The Los Angeles Rams<\/a> are currently seeking for a back up for Matthew Stafford. While Jimmy Garoppolo is a free agent after his one-year deal expired, head coach Sean McVay recently confirmed the team is interested in bringing him back or potentially signing other QB to bolster the room. <\/p>\n
