{"id":865183,"date":"2026-04-13T00:39:21","date_gmt":"2026-04-13T00:39:21","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/865183\/"},"modified":"2026-04-13T00:39:21","modified_gmt":"2026-04-13T00:39:21","slug":"bears-get-good-news-on-kayvon-thibodeaux-amid-trade-rumors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/865183\/","title":{"rendered":"Bears Get Good News on Kayvon Thibodeaux Amid Trade Rumors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"780\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2244646019-e1771358807742.jpg\" class=\"attachment-featured-image size-featured-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"Kayvon Thibodeaux\"   decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGetty\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>New York Giants edge rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/chicago-bears\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Chicago Bears<\/a> remain candidates to wheel and deal for an edge-rusher, either leading up to the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NFL<\/a> draft later this month or after it concludes, and the franchise got some encouraging news on one potential candidate over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/kayvon-thibodeaux\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kayvon Thibodeaux<\/a>, a former first-round pick of the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-york-giants\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York Giants<\/a>, is a top trade candidate who Jason LaCanfora of SportsBoom wrote Sunday is likely to wear a different uniform before the month of April is out.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe more people you talk to, the more likely it seems that former top-five pick Kayvon Thibodeaux is headed elsewhere,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sportsboom.us\/nfl\/exclusive-kayvon-thibodeaux-likely-to-be-dealt-for-midround-pick\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">LaCanfora wrote<\/a>. \u201cThibodeaux has been the center of trade rumors for years and there is a strong expectation among rival general managers that he will be gone by the second day of the NFL draft two weeks from now \u2026 if not sooner.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>LaCanfora noted a league executive who he described as \u201cinvolved in major transactions involving the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-york-giants\/\" title=\"Giants\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"223791\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Giants<\/a> in the past\u201d who said New York is ready to move on from Thibodeaux if the team can get a third-round pick in return.<\/p>\n<p>That arrangement could prove of value for the Bears, who have four picks across the first three rounds, including No. 89 late in Round 3, and have considerable needs to fill across the defensive front.<\/p>\n<p>Kayvon Thibodeaux Offers Interesting Risk-Reward Profile for Bears<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5667508\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-5667508\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2236642111-e1766268163504.jpg\" alt=\"Kayvon Thibodeaux\" width=\"782\" height=\"441\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5667508\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyEdge-rusher Kayvon Thibodeaux of the New York Giants.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago could look to fill its needs at edge-rusher with the No. 25 overall pick, though the Bears are likely to get less positional value there than they could find at defensive tackle or safety.<\/p>\n<p>Ben Solak and Dan Graziano named Chicago a trade suitor for Thibodeaux in late February and little has changed in the interim for either side.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Giants have a surplus of impact defensive linemen with Brian Burns\u00a0and\u00a0Abdul Carter, and it seems more likely they\u2019ll try to find a trade partner for Thibodeaux than\u00a0extend the 2022 first-round pick ahead of his fifth-year-option season,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/nfl\/story\/_\/id\/48023453\/2026-nfl-offseason-trade-candidate-ranking-top-15-players-available\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Graziano wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>New York exercised its fifth-year option on Thibodeaux last spring, which pays him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.spotrac.com\/nfl\/player\/_\/id\/76852\/kayvon-thibodeaux\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">$14.75 million<\/a> in 2026. He earned a total of $31.3 million over the first four years of his rookie contract ($46 million total).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA contract year could light a fire under Thibodeaux, who generates quick pressures with hand usage and a killer first step,\u201d Solak added. \u201cHe posted 2.5 sacks last season but also had 11.5 in 2023. Giants head coach John Harbaugh confirmed last week that he is a trade candidate.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m excited about him. I was fired up to see him today,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/SNYGiants\/status\/2041568887909609518\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Harbaugh said of Thibodeaux, per SNYtv<\/a>. \u201cI\u2019m thinking about him on the field. I\u2019m thinking about getting him plugged into our defense and getting him rolling. You want to talk about is he a trade possibility? Everybody\u2019s tradable. Everybody.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Chicago has free agency options like Jadeveon Clowney to whom it could look for one season.
