As a result, the Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly shared the latest regarding Achane’s future in South Florida.

“Tailback De’Von Achane, inside linebacker Jordyn Brooks and Tyrel Dodson, and center Aaron Brewer are all entering the final season of their contract, and therefore seek extensions,” Kelly wrote in his April 12 column. “The Dolphins are aware, and have discussed it with each. But no deals are close, sources say.

“Buffalo’s James Cook, a tailback that’s comparable to Achane in style and production, received the most recent lucrative extension for a tailback, landing a five-year deal that’s slated to pay him $51.6 million, and featured $30 million in guaranteed money. Achane likely won’t accept a dollar less, with the goal of becoming the 12th tailback who makes at least $11 million a season.”

Last season with the Dolphins, Achane earned an overall PFF grade of 89.2, ranking first among 55 qualified running backs. His 91.0 rushing grade also led the group.

Furthermore, he carried the ball 238 times for 1,350 yards and eight touchdowns, averaging 5.7 yards per attempt. Achane forced 49 missed tackles and averaged 4.1 yards after contact per carry, showing his effectiveness between the tackles. As a receiver, he caught 67 of 85 targets for 488 yards and four touchdowns.

Dolphins Could Listen to Offers on De’Von Achane

Moreover, Kelly noted that the Dolphins would be willing to listen to offers, given that the team likely doesn’t want to lose any players as free agents and not receive draft picks to help their rebuild.

“In Miami’s predraft conversations teams in need of a game changing tailback, a playmaking inside linebacker, and an athletic zone blocking center will likely get serious about trying to acquire Miami’s top veterans, saving them from the Dolphins’ lastest rebuild,” Kelly added. “Clearly finances will come into play, which is why Sullivan and Hafley must listen to offers.

“It’s clear Miami’s roster is being rebuilt, becoming younger and cheaper, and even though Sullivan claims Achane, Brooks and Brewer are foundational pieces the Dolphins hope to build around, proof of this will come from the contracts offered in the next two weeks. The Dolphins must decide if they would prefer a draft pick over these proven, but soon to be expensive NFL players.”

Channing Crowder Gets Blunt About De’Von Achane’s Future

With Achane’s future with the Dolphins uncertain, at least for now, WQAM’s Channing Crowder gave a blunt take regarding the running back’s situation and whether he’ll be staying in Miami.

“[Achane] will not touch the field in Miami Gardens until he has more money in his bank account,” Crowder said in an April 8 video from WQAM. “This is his hit. This is the time he has to hit somebody in the head. He’s a poker player. [Achane can] go out there at OTAs and tear [his] knee up.

“Now y’all take [his] money down to $5 million a year, and not $20 million a year? No, he’s not coming without a contract. I’ve been saying that the entire offseason.”

Eduardo Razo Eduardo Razo is a sports writer for Heavy.com, covering the NFL, MLB, and college football.
