The Tampa Bay Buccaneers hosted Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels for a top-30 visit Monday.<\/p>\n
For a team that hasn\u2019t drafted a signal-caller since Kyle Trask in 2021, the Bucs\u2019 curiosity could become a possibility if everything checks out.<\/p>\n
The question is whether the Bucs consider Daniels an intriguing prospect or project. He\u2019s experienced, with 49 games played at Kansas and has demonstrated elite arm talent and mobility.<\/p>\n
He is athletic, having run the 40-yard dash in 4.6. He also passed for 9,282 yards with 67 TDs and 31 interceptions while rushing for 1,445 yards and 23 scores.<\/p>\n
But the reason Daniels may plunge to the third day of the draft or go undrafted is a recurring back injury that forced him to miss most of the 2023 season.<\/p>\n
Keep in mind that Bucs starting quarterback Baker Mayfield is in the final year of his contract, although Tampa Bay and his representatives have discussed exploring an extension.<\/p>\n
The Bucs signed former Bengals quarterback Jake Browning to a one-year deal in March.<\/p>\n
Tampa Bay also has Connor Bazelak, who was their practice squad quarterback last season. The Bucs typically want four arms in training camp.<\/p>\n
Daniels met for several hours with the Chiefs during their pro day for local prospects and took a top-30 visit with the Patriots.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat I enjoyed the most of him was his, two things. One was his personality. He\u2019s, like, (a) very high energy, positive, upbeat dude. That was great,\u201d Jayhawks quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator Jim Zebrowski said on a recent media call.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd I love that, Jaylon walked in the room and he\u2019s like, \u2018What\u2019s up coach Z? What\u2019s up Jay?\u2019 And like, \u2018Love you coach, love you Jay.\u2019 And the relationship was awesome.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then from his ability level, he\u2019d make so many unique plays that other people sometimes can\u2019t make. He\u2019d do some things that are really great, really unique. And so loose and made some unbelievable throws with his arm talent. That was two things that were like, just stood out. And that\u2019s why you knew he\u2019d have a chance. I think he\u2019ll have a chance at the next level, if given the opportunity.\u201d<\/p>\n
The good news about Daniels\u2019 back injury is that it never required surgery but was thought to be the result of overuse.<\/p>\n
