The New York Jets<\/a> and their quarterback position have been a hotly discussed topic this offseason, especially after the franchise signed Geno Smith.<\/p>\n

Head coach Aaron Glenn stated Smith can take the Jets to the “promised land,” so it is clear Glenn has faith in Geno, even after his horror 2025 season with the Las Vegas Raiders<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But we all know Geno is a stop-gap player until the Jets can get their franchise quarterback, which most think will come next year.<\/p>\n

So, it won’t make too much sense to take a quarterback in this year’s draft, right?<\/p>\n

Well, Sports Illustrated’s Mike Kadlick thinks the Jets should be one of five teams that shouldn’t leave the NFL Draft without adding a quarterback.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Jets have made a handful of moves at quarterback so far this offseason, trading with the Raiders for Geno Smith before shipping Justin Fields off to Kansas City,\u201d Kadlick wrote<\/a>. \u201cBehind Smith, New York\u2019s quarterback room currently consists of Brady Cook and Bailey Zappe\u2014hardly a long-term solution at the position.\u201d<\/p>\n

Do Jets need a QB?<\/p>\n

The question is, if the Jets do think they need one, then where should they take one?<\/p>\n

The first round? That likely means Ty Simpson, and for most, that is a little bit of a reach. So, what about Carson Beck in the later rounds? Could the Jets take a flier on him? Possibly.<\/p>\n

Given the talent pool in the 2027 NFL Draft, I can’t see the Jets going too hard for a quarterback in this year’s draft (I could be wrong), and especially taking one so high like in the first-round as some have mocked the Jets doing.<\/p>\n

In truth, no one knows exactly what the Jets will do in the draft, but they have to take a quarterback.<\/p>\n

I’m not so sure. Take you lumps with Geno before having a genuine crack in 2027.<\/p>\n
