49ers send new contract proposal to Trent Williams, pushing to resolve dispute before NFL Draft<\/a>
\u201cAs we hear it, the 49ers made another push to try to get closure in this situation and sent over a revised contract to Williams within the last few days,\u201d La Canfora wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cLeague sources indicated there is a chance this gets resolved early this week, depending on how comfortable the player is with the latest proposal. And, should the sides not make headway over the coming days, there is potential for this to get sideways.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added, \u201cThe 49ers are willing to pay Williams basically $36M guaranteed over the next two years, with about $24M to be paid to him in 2026.\u201d<\/p>\n

While such a deal would still make him a top-10 paid offensive lineman, Williams may be seeking to climb even higher in the salary rankings.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe closer we get to the start of the regular season, the more the 49ers could reasonably conclude that opposing teams will have less appetite to take on a massive salary and thus perhaps the threat of cutting him could result in Williams opting to take what\u2019s on the table,\u201d La Canfora noted.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/a>\u201cIf the 49ers decide to address offensive tackle earlier, Yates believes Florida\u2019s Austin Barber could be a strong second-round fit. San Francisco has already held a virtual meeting with Barber as part of its pre-draft evaluation process.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust a physical, nasty run blocker,\u201d Yates commented. \u201cA really good athlete as well. He\u2019s a big boy. He\u2019s 6-foot-7 \u2026 definitely has some great size.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201c[Keldrick] Faulk is an intriguing prospect whose tape was better in 2024 than 2025 (7.0 sacks compared with 2.0, respectively),\u201d Yates wrote in his mock draft. \u201cBut his skill set is too good to ignore: He\u2019s 6-6, 276 pounds with positional versatility and stout run defense. A defensive line coach will see the potential to develop Faulk into a much more consistent rusher, as he won\u2019t turn 21 until September.\u201d<\/p>\n

Yates admits he is also high on former Oklahoma defensive end R Mason Thomas, whom he ranked No. 24 on his big board.<\/p>\n

\u201cJust a maximum, full-tilt player,\u201d Yates said, though he noted Thomas did not test as strongly as some hoped at the NFL Scouting Combine.<\/p>\n
