(Photo by Rich Storry\/Getty Images)<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/washington-commanders\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Washington Commanders<\/a> have a number of needs on the defensive side of the football, but the franchise remains connected to multiple potential moves to add an elite running back alongside quarterback <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/jayden-daniels\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jayden Daniels<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Putting next week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NFL<\/a> draft aside for the moment, <a href=\"https:\/\/bleacherreport.com\/articles\/25418448-top-landing-spots-devon-achane-if-dolphins-trade-star-rb\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Moe Moton of Bleacher Report<\/a> on Thursday, April 16 dubbed the Commanders among the top five trade destinations for <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/miami-dolphins\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Miami Dolphins<\/a> breakout running back <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/devon-achane\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">De\u2019Von Achane<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">The Commanders have the second-most cap space across the league. If they acquire De\u2019Von Achane, the front office could use some of the team\u2019s\u00a0<a class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-inherit MuiLink-root MuiLink-underlineAlways MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__ui__link__medium_strong css-lu48cp\" href=\"https:\/\/overthecap.com\/salary-cap-space\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer external nofollow\">$49.6 million<\/a> in cap space to make him one of the highest-paid running backs and the focal point of a revamped offense for years to come.<\/p>\n<p class=\"MuiTypography-root MuiTypography-bp_small__body__article__medium css-1vqr2el\">Washington doesn\u2019t have its second-round pick this year. So, it may have to offer a starting-caliber player like defensive tackle <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/daron-payne\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Daron Payne<\/a>, along with multiple picks, to get a deal done with the Miami Dolphins.<\/p>\n<p>Dolphins Maintain Firm Line That De\u2019Von Achane Unavailable for Trade<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5889071\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-5889071\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776378629_661_GettyImages-2253849847-e1775587367423.jpg\" alt=\"Miami Dolphins\" width=\"782\" height=\"441\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5889071\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyMiami Dolphins running back De\u2019Von Achane.<\/p>\n<p>Achane\u2019s cost will no doubt be high, if he is even available. The running back put up 1,350 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pro-football-reference.com\/players\/A\/AchaDe00.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">league-leading 5.7 yards per carry<\/a> in 2025, adding another 488 yards and four scores through the air on 67 receptions.<\/p>\n<p>New Dolphins GM Jon-Eric Sullivan said as recently as Wednesday that Achane is not on the trade block following his third professional season and first Pro Bowl selection.<\/p>\n<p>Miami\u2019s fire sale of players upon Sullivan\u2019s arrival, plus semi-stalled extension talks with Achane, have led to widespread speculation that the running back is now, or potentially will be, available via a trade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe\u2019s not available for trade,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcsports.com\/nfl\/profootballtalk\/rumor-mill\/news\/dolphins-gm-jon-eric-sullivan-devon-achane-not-available-for-trade\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Sullivan said, per Pro Football Talk<\/a>. \u201cThings are going good. We\u2019ve had some positive conversations over the last couple of days, trending in the right direction. Obviously, he\u2019s very important to what we\u2019re doing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>ESPN\u2019s Adam Schefter authored a report Thursday that backed up what Sullivan said about the relationship between Achane and the Dolphins.<\/p>\n<p>Miami running back De\u2019Von Achane, who was not present for the start of the team\u2019s voluntary off-season workout program last week, was spotted in the Dolphins\u2019 training facility today, per sources. It is believed that Achane showed up as a sign of good faith as the two sides <\/p>\n<p>\u201cMiami running back De\u2019Von Achane, who was not present for the start of the team\u2019s voluntary offseason workout program last week, was spotted in the Dolphins\u2019 training facility today, per sources,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/AdamSchefter\/status\/2044831373358252321\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Schefter posted to X<\/a>. \u201cIt is believed that Achane showed up as a sign of good faith, as the two sides continue discussing a contract extension.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Commanders Interested in Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love in NFL Draft<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5893893\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-5893893\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Jeremiyah-Love.jpg\" alt=\"Jeremiyah Love\" width=\"782\" height=\"522\"  \/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5893893\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyNotre Dame running back Jeremiyah Love.<\/p>\n<p>Washington\u2019s interest in Achane makes sense given how the team is approaching the upcoming draft, in which it holds just one pick inside the top 70: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tankathon.com\/nfl\/commanders\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">No. 7 overall<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Tony Pauline of Essentially Sports cited sources who said the Commanders will not hesitate to select <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/college-football\/notre-dame-fighting-irish\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Notre Dame<\/a> running back <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/washington-commanders\/connected-to-notre-dame-jeremiyah-love\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Jeremiyah Love<\/a> if he is available with the seventh pick.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSeveral people tell me the team will jump all over Jeremiyah Love if he falls into their laps,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.essentiallysports.com\/nfl-active-news-source-commanders-favor-jeremiyah-love-denzel-boston-locked-for-round-one-and-cj-allen-rises-as-lb-three\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Pauline wrote Wednesday<\/a>. \u201cHe\u2019d be an additional weapon for Jayden Daniels, who\u2019s coming off an injury-plagued season, and would end Washington\u2019s running-back-by-committee approach.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He may not fall that far, however, as the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/tennessee-titans\/\" title=\"Tennessee Titans\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"228313\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tennessee Titans<\/a> at No. 4 and <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-york-giants\/\" title=\"New York Giants\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"228312\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">New York Giants<\/a> at No. 5 are both potential landing spots for Love, who is by far the highest-graded running back in the 2026 class.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/author\/maxdible1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max Dible<\/a> covers the NFL, NBA and MLB for Heavy.com, with a focus on the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns.
