For years, NFL fans grew accustomed to seeing Mike Evans<\/a> dominate in the red and pewter of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers<\/a>. But seeing the future Hall of Famer in the <\/a>San Francisco 49ers<\/a>\u2019 iconic red and gold will feel like a fever dream for the rest of the NFC.<\/p>\n

In a recent appearance on The Real Ones podcast, Mike Evans sat down with 49ers linebacker Fred Warner<\/a> to discuss the move that shook the league<\/a>. It turns out, Warner himself was a major factor in the wide receiver\u2019s decision to head west.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re part of the reason\u2026 seriously,\u201d Evans told Warner. \u201cObviously we\u2019ve known each other before, but I\u2019ve admired your game and a lot of your teammates\u2019 game and y\u2019alls culture. And the stadium and the way it feels to play there, and it just made sense for me to go out there and finish my career strong in San Francisco<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n

The culture in Santa Clara is a recurring theme for new arrivals. Christian McCaffrey<\/a>, who knows a thing or two about mid-career trades to the Bay, called Evans a \u201cperfect fit\u201d<\/a> for Kyle Shanahan\u2019s offense. McCaffrey noted that Evans\u2019 physicality in the run game and his vertical threat open up the entire field.<\/p>\n

The transition has been seamless. While there was some lighthearted drama regarding jersey numbers, with Evans and Warner reportedly having a \u201cnegotiation\u201d for digits, the chemistry on the field is undeniable.<\/p>\n

He finished the 2025 campaign with 30 receptions for 368 yards and three touchdowns, marking the only time in his 12-year career he failed to reach the 1,000-yard milestone. Now, he\u2019s headlining the San Francisco 49ers\u2019 2026 free agency class.<\/p>\n

With a clean bill of health, Evans is expected to be the missing piece in Kyle Shanahan\u2019s offense<\/a>, providing a massive red-zone target that should make life much easier for Christian McCaffrey and Brandon Aiyuk<\/a>.<\/p>\n
