However, they lost key contributors like Demario Davis, Alontae Taylor, and possibly Cameron Jordan. While these absences impact every down, it especially hinders their pass defense. Fortunately for them, this could be revitalized by scooping up Kyle Louis on Day 2 of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Even before Davis’ departure, they lacked a true pass-coverage linebacker. This was the veteran’s biggest problem and the Saints hadn’t addressed the role. That’s why adding someone like the Pittsburgh linebacker would make sense during the draft.

What Louis lacks in size, he compensates for with his athleticism, fluidity, and comfortness in coverage. He would be a day-one starter for the Saints and help form a strong room for the future alongside Kaden Ellis and Danny Stutsman. Ellis’ versatility as a pass rusher could regularly put Stutsman and Louis on the field together.

Kyle Louis would reform the Saints’ defense in 2026

Drafting Louis would add another dimension to Brandon Staley’s defense. Louis is versatile enough to play both linebacker and safety, which would give the Saints an advantage in every situation. Against the run, they’d have another physical presence who can fly downhill to attack the ball carrier. Similarly, his prowess in both man and zone coverage will help disguise the defensive coverage, confusing quarterbacks, leading to more mistakes by them.

A common theme in Saints games is the opposing tight end torching their defense. For instance, Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert had 10 receptions for 170 yards in week three of 2024. This is largely because they didn’t have anyone to match up. The defensive backs were too small and linebackers were too slow. This is another reason why Louis would be so impactful. His combination of athleticism and physicality would help eliminate tight ends from the game plan.

Overall, Kyle Louis isn’t a household name ahead of the 2026 NFL Draft. However, he could revitalize the Saints’ defense and give Brandon Staley a role they’ve been missing in recent years. Losing Demario Davis, Alontae Taylor, and possibly Cameron Jordan sucks, but adding Louis would help ease the transition.

Add us as a preferred source on GoogleFollow

The New Orleans Saints’ defense ended the year strong under Brandon Staley.
