The Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> locker room situation appears less than ideal this offseason, with uncertainty surrounding both the immediate future of star wide receiver A. J. Brown and the long-term outlook for franchise quarterback Jalen Hurts<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A year after leading the Eagles<\/a> to their second Super Bowl<\/a> title and earning Super Bowl MVP honors, Hurts had a relatively underwhelming 2025 campaign. He threw for 3,224 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding 421 rushing yards and eight scores on the ground.<\/p>\n

While those numbers are far from poor, some believe Hurts has made the offense stagnant<\/a>, which even led to the firing of offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo. ESPN recently reported that team sources have raised concerns about Hurts’s perceived lack of coachability, with many interpreting it as a warning sign<\/a> for the quarterback\u2019s future.<\/p>\n

Whether that warning translates into success in 2026 remains to be seen. It is also unclear if the Eagles would consider moving on from Hurts if he fails to improve. However, they could lower the risk and expand their options by selecting a developmental quarterback as insurance, and Athlon\u2019s Luke Easterling predicts the team will draft Taylen Green with the 137th overall pick<\/a> in the 2026 NFL Draft<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“In terms of upside, nobody in this quarterback class has more than Green. His physical tools are off the charts, and he brings a ton of starting experience to the table. If he can land in the right situation, with a strong coaching staff and an organization that can be patient with his development, it wouldn\u2019t be surprising for him to develop into a special player and a massive steal,” Easterling wrote about Green in his scouting report.<\/a><\/p>\n

Green stands at 6-foot-6 and 224 pounds and offers an impressive blend of size, speed, athleticism, and arm strength. He also brings true dual-threat ability. Over five collegiate seasons, he completed 60.1% of his passes for 9,662 yards and 59 touchdowns, along with 35 interceptions, while rushing for 2,405 yards and 35 touchdowns.<\/p>\n

Due to a relatively weak quarterback class and Green\u2019s high upside, some projections have him going as early as Day 2. However, landing him in the fourth round would represent strong value for Philadelphia, whether as Hurts\u2019 backup or a potential long-term replacement.<\/p>\n

The Eagles currently have Tanner McKee as their primary backup and recently added Andy Dalton for depth. However, McKee struggled in limited action<\/a> during 2025, and given that both Green and Hurts are mobile quarterbacks from the SEC<\/a>, the rookie could potentially fit the system better than the current alternatives.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, Philadelphia\u2019s biggest question centers on Hurts\u2019 long-term future. Green\u2019s upside and experience could make him a viable successor, especially for a franchise that has not hesitated to move on from quarterbacks in the past, as seen with Carson Wentz<\/a>.<\/p>\n
