{"id":868602,"date":"2026-04-17T19:25:56","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T19:25:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/868602\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T19:25:56","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T19:25:56","slug":"ranking-and-grading-every-dolphins-draft-since-2000","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/868602\/","title":{"rendered":"Ranking (And Grading) Every Dolphins Draft Since 2000"},"content":{"rendered":"<p id=\"inline-text-0\" class=\"mt-[18px] md:mt-0 mb-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6i\">When the 2026 NFL draft arrives Thursday, the Miami Dolphins will be hoping to land a rookie class that will help propel an organizational turnaround.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-1\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6l\"> The Dolphins find themselves in rebuilding mode (again) precisely because they just haven&#8217;t had enough success in the draft since their last playoff victory in December 2000.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-2\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6o\">Looking back at those draft classes of the 2000s, it&#8217;s hard to find many instances where the team should be given a good grade and there have been way too many drafts that deserve grades at the other end of the spectrum.<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-3\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"6r\">Here then is our ranking of the Dolphins&#8217; drafts of the 2000s along with a grade for each. Note that we didn&#8217;t give out a grade for the past two drafts because of the widely held belief it takes at least three years to properly evaluate a draft class.<\/p>\n<p>GRADES FOR THE MIAMI DOLPHINS DRAFT CLASSES OF THE 2000s2016 \u2014\u00a0Grade: A<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-6\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"70\">Hits: T Laremy Tunsil (1-13th overall), CB Xavien Howard (2-38), WR\/KR Jakeem Grant (6-186)<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-7\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"73\">Misses: WR Leonte Carroo (3-86)<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-8\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"76\">Analysis: Yes, the Dolphins caught a break with Tunsil and the draft-night gas mask video, but getting two All-Pros with the first two picks and a star kick returner in Round 6 still was great work.<\/p>\n<p>2018 \u2014\u00a0Grade: B+<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-10\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7c\">Hits: S Minkah Fitzpatrick (1-11), K Jason Sanders (7-229)<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-11\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7f\">Misses: RB Kalen Ballage (4-131)<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-12\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7i\">Other picks: TE Mike Gesicki (2-42), LB Jerome Baker (3-73), TE Durham Smythe (4-123), CB Cornell Armstrong (6-209), LB Quentin Poling (7-227)<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-13\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7l\">Analysis: This was solid work all around, understanding that Fitzpatrick was a very good pick to start things even though his best football came with the Pittsburgh Steelers.<\/p>\n<p>2014 \u2014\u00a0Grade: B<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-15\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7r\">Hits: WR Jarvis Landry (2-63), T Billy Turner (3-67)<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-16\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7u\">Misses: None<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-17\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"7x\">Other picks: T Ja&#8217;Wuan James (1-19), DB Walt Aikens (4-125), TE Arthur Lynch (5-155), Lb Jordan Tripp (5-171), WR Matt Hazel (6-190), TE Terrence Fede (7-0234).<\/p>\n<p id=\"inline-text-18\" class=\"my-[18px] [&amp;_a]:text-primary my-f-1.5\" q:key=\"0\" q:id=\"80\">Analysis: This was the small-school draft, with five of the eight picks coming from lower-division schools.
