A first-round pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, the TCU product had a rough start to his career but has blossomed into a solid starter under head coach Jim Harbaugh. Appearing in 14 games last year, the wideout finished his third campaign with a respectable 51 receptions for 735 yards and eight touchdowns on 84 targets as the Chargers made it to the postseason for the second consecutive season.

The Chargers have until May 1st to activate the fifth-year option in his contract, and the fact they haven’t done it yet seems to suggest his future with the team could be in jeopardy. However, General Manager Joe Hortiz recently put an end to the trade rumors and confidently said Quentin Johnston is not available.

“There’s a lot of rumors out there on Twitter,” Hortiz said, via ESPN’s Kris Rhim. “And I can tell you this: I have made zero calls about Quentin, and I’ve had zero calls regarding Quentin.”

Chargers GM: LA Won’t Trade Quentin Johnston

Quentin Johnston probably won’t ever live up to his first-round draft capital, but the former first-round pick has established himself as a reliable part of this offense. With the Chargers hoping to load up for the first deep playoff run of Justin Herbert’s career, Los Angeles could use a player like Johnston to help them win now.

Former second-round pick Ladd McConkey will likely be the top option in this passing attack, but Johnston will start on the outside. Pairing these two with breakout tight end Oronde Gadsden will give the Chargers a decently deep group of pass-catching weapons. While nobody will confuse this trio with the Greatest Show on Turf, they’re good enough to support an above-average starter like Herbert.

Of course, it’s worth noting that Hortiz could be lying. While the Chargers have yet to trade Quentin Johnston, they might be willing to send him to a new home for a larger return. Chances are, if a trade is going to materialize, it will happen during the 2026 NFL Draft. Perhaps some team misses on the wide receiver they were targeting and pivots to the veteran pass-catcher.

Los Angeles Chargers wide receiver Quentin Johnston is entering the final year of his rookie contract and has…

[2064
241,5403,7,1014,262,2444,2443,6,9277
0":"post-868655","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-los-angeles-chargers","8":"tag-chargers","9":"tag-chargers-featured","10":"tag-football","11":"tag-los-angeles","12":"tag-los-angeles-chargers","13":"tag-losangeles","14":"tag-losangeleschargers","15":"tag-nfl","16":"tag-quentin-johnston
["GET
