{"id":868937,"date":"2026-04-18T06:20:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T06:20:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/868937\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T06:20:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T06:20:08","slug":"texans-draw-attention-with-interest-in-buckeyes-max-klare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/868937\/","title":{"rendered":"Texans Draw Attention With Interest in Buckeyes\u2019 Max Klare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"780\" height=\"439\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2263962314-e1776489937930.jpg\" class=\"attachment-featured-image size-featured-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"Max Klare, Houston Texans\"   decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGetty\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Max Klare of the Ohio State Buckeyes participates in a drill during the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/houston-texans\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Houston Texans<\/a> made no bones about their interest in tight end options, and they could get an intriguing one in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/players\/max-klare-1.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max Klare<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The Texans currently have several players under contract at Klare\u2019s position, but that has not deterred their interest in him ahead of the 2026 draft, which runs from April 23 (Round 1) through April 25 (Rounds 4-7).<\/p>\n<p>He could help solidify what was a <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TexansJacob\/status\/2043526717550047317\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">revolving door<\/a> for the Texans last season.<\/p>\n<p>Texans Show Interest in Buckeyes\u2019 Max Klare Before Draft<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5896305\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5896305\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2263962034-e1775819465981.jpg\" alt=\"Max Klare\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5896305\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyMax Klare of the Ohio State Buckeyes participates in a drill during the 2026 <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/\" title=\"NFL\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"229638\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NFL<\/a> Scouting Combine.<\/p>\n<p>According to KPRC 2\u2019s Aaron Wilson, the Texans have \u201cmet extensively\u201d with Klare in recent weeks ahead of the draft. Per Wilson, Klare is \u201cexpected\u201d to be the second tight end off the board in the draft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKlare is making a sound recovery from an ankle injury that prevented him from fully participating in testing,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/sports\/2026\/04\/18\/source-texans-have-met-extensively-with-ohio-state-standout-tight-end-max-klare-since-scouting-combine\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Wilson wrote<\/a> on April 17. \u201cKlare is known as a versatile tight end who\u2019s an explosive route runner with outstanding hands and a good blocker. He is explosive with a large catch radius and diversity of patterns and creating separation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Klare caught 43 passes for 448 yards and 2 touchdowns for the Buckeyes last season. He posted a 116-1,329-6 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sports-reference.com\/cfb\/pi\/shareit\/r27ZN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">career line<\/a>. News of the Texans\u2019 interest was <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/TexansCommenter\/status\/2045299788782911855\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">well-received<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Texans general manager <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/houston-texans\/caserio-dell-injury-update-notice-draft-roster\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Nick Caserio<\/a> also suggested they could explore TE options.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got a lot of guys in some different categories,\u201d Caserio said, <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Djbienaime\/status\/2043741198071017579\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">per ESPN\u2019s DJ Bien-Aime<\/a> on April 13. \u201cThere\u2019s some question marks if we\u2019re just being real. But we think there\u2019s some players there that potentially can help us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Texans tight ends combined for 106 receptions for 883 yards and 3 touchdowns on 130 targets this past regular season. Starter <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/dalton-schultz\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dalton Schultz<\/a> had an 82-777-3 line on 106 looks by himself.<\/p>\n<p>Tight end might not be a big need for the Texans, but Klare would be a good one to add.<\/p>\n<p>What Draft Evaluators Say About Max Klare<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5774708\" class=\"size-large wp-image-5774708\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776493208_274_GettyImages-2247974115-e1771287137523.jpg\" alt=\"Max Klare\" width=\"780\" height=\"439\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5774708\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyMax Klare #86 of the Ohio State Buckeyes jumps over Bo Mascoe #3, Kaj Sanders #5, and Dariel Djabome #8 of the Rutgers Scarlet Knights as he carries the ball.<\/p>\n<p>The Texans will have their own evaluations of Klare, but draft analysts have been noticeably intrigued by him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKlare has a low ceiling as a blocker and needs to continue adding refinement as a route runner, but his combination of athleticism, toughness and ball skills gives him a modern-day skill set,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/interactive\/the-beast-2026\/player\/max-klare-ohio-state-tight-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">The Athletic\u2019s Dan Brugler wrote<\/a> in \u201cThe Beast\u201d pre-draft profile. \u201cHe projects as an F tight end, similar in ways to <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/dalton-kincaid\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dalton Kincaid<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Klare is Brugler\u2019s TE3 with a second or third-round grade.<\/p>\n<p>The Ringer\u2019s Todd McShay echoed his high floor, ceiling projection for Klare, whom he compared to Schultz, among others. McShay cited Klare\u2019s \u201cRoute IQ, reliability, and YAC.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose are the three traits that all overachieving tight ends possess coming out of the draft. Klare is very good in all three areas\u2014and that\u2019s why I see shades of Dalton Schultz (Texans), <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/cole-kmet\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cole Kmet<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/chicago-bears\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bears<\/a>), and <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/jake-ferguson\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">[Jake] Ferguson<\/a> (<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/dallas-cowboys\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cowboys<\/a>) in his game. Klare should immediately contribute as a versatile no. 2 tight end,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/theringer.com\/todd-mcshay\/players\/max-klare\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">McShay wrote<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has enough size and athleticism to emerge as a team\u2019s TE1. He\u2019s best suited for a play-action-heavy offense that features the tight end on a lot of delayed releases, crossers, middle-field spacing concepts, stick concepts, and so on.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/interactive\/the-beast-2026\/player\/max-klare-ohio-state-tight-end\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">NFL.com\u2019s Lance Zierlein echoed<\/a> those sentiments, comparing Klare to <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/brenton-strange\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Brenton Strange<\/a> of the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/jacksonville-jaguars\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Jacksonville Jaguars<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/author\/jgbuck\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Josh Buckhalter<\/a> covers the NBA and NFL for Heavy.com.
