Former Philadelphia Eagles<\/a> star Alshon Jeffery, one of the biggest names from the franchise\u2019s Super Bowl run, was arrested on Wednesday, April 15, in California on an alleged insurance fraud charge.<\/p>\n

According to The New York Post<\/a>, Jeffery, 36, was taken into custody for allegedly concealing or failing to disclose an insurance benefit or payment tied to what his camp described as a \u201cminor freeway fender bender.\u201d He was later released, and authorities have not publicly shared additional details about the incident.<\/p>\n

Jeffery\u2019s representative, Denise White, pushed back hard on the allegations in a statement, saying the former Eagles wide receiver \u201ccategorically denies the allegations.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe underlying incident was a minor freeway fender bender, and he provided his information at the scene,\u201d White said. \u201cThese are unfounded allegations only, and Alshon has not been convicted of any offense.\u201d<\/p>\n

White added that Jeffery intends to fight the case and believes \u201cthe facts will demonstrate this was a misunderstanding and nothing more.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jeffery caught the first touchdown of Super Bowl LII, hauling in a 34-yard pass from Nick Foles over Eric Rowe as Philadelphia went on to beat the New England Patriots 41-33 for the franchise\u2019s first Lombardi Trophy.<\/p>\n

Jeffery finished that game with three catches for 73 yards and spent four seasons in Philadelphia after arriving from the Chicago Bears in 2017. Before that, he made a name for himself in Chicago, where he earned a Pro Bowl selection in 2013 after posting 1,421 receiving yards.<\/p>\n

The former South Carolina standout has not played in the NFL since the Eagles released him in 2021. South Carolina retired his No. 1 jersey in 2023.<\/p>\n

Under California law, insurance fraud is a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a $50,000 fine.<\/p>\n

Insurance fraud has become one of the country\u2019s costliest white-collar crimes. Industry estimates place the annual cost at more than $300 billion, with fraudulent claims driving up premiums for consumers nationwide. Roughly one in five insurance claims is believed to involve some level of fraud.<\/p>\n
