The football world was rocked last night with the news. The Cincinnati Bengals have shipped the No. 10 overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft to the New York Giants. It’s a straight up swap that now puts New York on the clock twice in the top-10. That could be very good news for the Miami Dolphins. It could, however, also be very bad news for the Dolphins, too.

New York Giants’ second top-10 pick could help the Miami Dolphins

New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence (97).Julian Leshay Guadalupe/NorthJersey.com / USA TODAY NETWORK via Imagn Images

The Giants have been tied to several players who would be good additions to the Miami Dolphins’ roster. That includes Ohio State LB Sonny Styles, Ohio State SAF Caleb Downs, Miami Hurricanes OT Francis Mauigoa. They’ve also been tied (intensely, by the way) in the last 24 hours to Arizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.

The number of names that the Giants are tied to coincides with a recent comment from NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero that there was a split inside their building on what to do with the No. 5 overall pick. Conveniently enough for Giants decision-makers, they can now get two of the aforementioned named in the top-10! That is good news and also, potentially, good news for the Dolphins. It depends on what the Giants’ intentions with the 10th overall pick are.

If New York ends up highly coveting Tyson as their preferred choice with one of those selections, that is a win for the Dolphins. It firmly puts two wide receivers in position to go in the first 10 picks. And while Miami does indeed need wide receiver help, the roster feels likely to get attention elsewhere early in this draft. Especially when you consider Tyson going before Miami picks removes a player with durability questions off the board for a Miami team that sorely needs to be hoarding durable football players.

May hurt the Dolphins, too

The other side of this coin would have the Giants going offensive line. The Miami Dolphins are at risk of seeing another tackle off the board by their pick at No. 11 overall. The two primary offensive tackle spots in the top-10 before this trade included Arizona at No. 3 and Cleveland at No. 6. Now, with New York owning two picks, they could get a defensive stalwart and also secure a mauler to play up front for John Harbaugh.

So this one could break either way. If New York drafts Tyson this week, the Lawrence trade is a win for the Dolphins. If the Giants draft, say, Francis Mauigoa? Well…not so much.

NFL

The Dexter Lawrence blockbuster trade may end up helping the Miami Dolphins in the 2026 NFL Draft.
