New York Jets general manager Darren Mougey has made it abundantly clear that the team is interested in moving down<\/a> in the 2026 NFL Draft, but as it goes for any trade, it takes two to tango.<\/p>\n

There needs to be a team willing to come up to get a player to actually facilitate the trade, and it seems like one has come to the forefront.<\/p>\n

NFL insider Jordan Schultz<\/a> reported last week that the Dallas Cowboys, armed with picks No. 12 and No. 20, could be a team looking to move up in the first round, “targeting a player the Giants also covet.” Big Blue owns pick No. 5.<\/p>\n

There have been rumors that the Cowboys are interested<\/a> in adding Texas Tech standout David Bailey, one of the class’s top players and a popular mock draft pick at No. 2 to the Jets. Could New York take advantage of an aggressive Jerry Jones and give itself even more draft capital?<\/p>\n

Could the Jets make a blockbuster trade down with the Cowboys?<\/p>\n

SNY’s Connor Hughes added<\/a> on to Jordan Schultz’s report, saying he’s heard that every team outside the Las Vegas Raiders in the top five has shown interest in moving down the board, making them a logical trade candidate with any of the teams picking two to four.<\/p>\n

Regardless of who the Cowboys are targeting near the top of the 2026 NFL Draft, the Jets’ wanting to trade down makes a whole lot of sense. Despite their ample draft capital,<\/a> this team is still rebuilding, and the more picks they have, the faster they can fill some of those holes.<\/p>\n

The Jets already own the Cowboys’ second-round pick in 2026, thanks to last trade deadline’s Quinnen Williams deal.<\/a> Could they also recoup one or both of those first-round picks?<\/p>\n

Maybe New York says forget the 2026 class. We want both of your 2027 picks, one of which they already have the right to, once again thanks to the Williams trade.<\/p>\n

The Jets are receiving the lesser of Dallas’ two first-round picks in 2027 between them and the Green Bay Packers. Maybe Mougey asks for the rights to the one they aren’t already getting.<\/p>\n

Either way, if the Jets truly aren’t in love with Bailey, Arvell Reese, or any of the top prospects in the upcoming draft class, a trade makes a whole lot of sense. <\/p>\n

We’ll see if the Cowboys end up getting aggressive enough to pull the trigger on a trade up.<\/a><\/p>\n
