The Pittsburgh Steelers had one known Pro Day dinner in this pre-draft cycle. The intel they gathered may now be critical after an unfortunate Sunday morning development kicked off draft week. Athens Clarke County police arrested former Georgia WR Zachariah Branch on two counts of misdemeanor obstruction, according to Marc Weiszer of Athens Banner-Herald<\/a>.<\/p>\n

More specifically, police charged him with obstructing public sidewalks\/streets, prowling, and obstruction of a law enforcement officer. Authorities booked Branch at 1:26 AM Sunday and released him at 3:44 AM, just a couple of hours later.<\/p>\n

Getting in any trouble, even minor offenses, during draft week will raise questions in NFL front offices. After all, millions of dollars and a professional future are on the line. Branch reportedly had great interviews with teams around the league, which will now work in his favor. His background shows no other red flags with off-field behavior.<\/p>\n

The Steelers only sent Mike McCarthy and Omar Khan to Georgia\u2019s Pro Day this year, and they showed particular interest<\/a> in Branch. That interest is notable given the amount of work Pittsburgh did on the whole WR class. The Steelers need both a slot receiver and a return specialist.<\/p>\n

At 5085, 177 pounds, Branch has one of the most diminutive frames in the class. Still, he ran a blazing-fast 4.35-second 40-yard dash, jumped an impressive 38-inch vertical, and had 20 bench-press reps. That\u2019s a lot of strength for a 177-pound athlete.<\/p>\n

In three college seasons, Branch had 159 receptions, 1,634 yards, and nine TDs in the air. He added 94 yards and a TD on the ground. He also returned 44 punts with a 13.3 average and one TD, and returned 39 kickoffs for a 19.3 average and one TD. The Steelers need a return specialist after Kenneth Gainwell and Calvin Austin III both departed in free agency.<\/p>\n

Will this incident affect Branch\u2019s draft stock? That likely depends on how teams felt about him throughout the process.
