Myles Garrett made a brief stop in Cleveland over the weekend \u2014 and it appears that\u2019s all it was.<\/p>\n
After attending Game 1 of the Cleveland Cavaliers\u2019 first-round NBA Playoff series<\/a> against the Toronto Raptors<\/a> at Rocket Arena, Garrett shared a photo indicating he was flying out of the city, all but confirming he will not be present for the Browns\u2019 voluntary offseason workouts this week.<\/p>\n Garrett\u2019s photo showed his bags and shoes with an airplane emoji.<\/p>\n GettyMyles Garrett shared a photo on social media after attending the Cavaliers playoff game.<\/p>\n As he has in recent years, the reigning Defensive Player of the Year skipped Phase 1 of the team\u2019s offseason program earlier this month. There was some thought Garrett might stick around after being spotted in town, but with him now heading out, that possibility appears off the table. The Browns\u2019 voluntary veteran minicamp<\/a> runs from April 21-23.<\/p>\n Browns on Garrett Absence: Myles Will be Ready<\/p>\n Browns new head coach, Todd Monken, downplayed Garrett\u2019s absence last week.<\/p>\n \u201cFirst of all, as I\u2019ve said this before, this is voluntary for our players to be here,\u201d Monken told reporters<\/a>. \u201cMyles will be ready. I\u2019m not worried about Myles.\u201d<\/p>\n While Monken isn\u2019t worried about his star pass-rusher, he doesn\u2019t necessarily agree with his decision.<\/p>\n \u201cHell, I\u2019ve been part of a team since I was five years old,\u201d Monken said. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing like it. I wouldn\u2019t miss it because that\u2019s me, that\u2019s how I\u2019m wired. But it is voluntary.\u201d<\/p>\n The optics remain complicated. The Browns are working under a new coaching staff, and continued absences \u2014 even voluntary ones \u2014 do little to quiet the noise that has followed Garrett all offseason.<\/p>\n There\u2019s also a financial layer to it<\/a>. Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk reported that Garrett has a $1 million workout bonus<\/a> in 2026 tied to attendance thresholds. By skipping, Garrett is likely forfeiting that money. But on a $160 million deal, it\u2019s a relatively minor hit.<\/p>\n Trade Rumors Persist Around Browns Star Myles Garrett<\/p>\n Garrett\u2019s absences have also done very little to quiet the trade chatter. The Browns restructured Garrett\u2019s contract earlier this offseason<\/a> in a way that significantly reduced the dead cap cost of a potential trade.<\/p>\n However, general manager Andrew Berry has been emphatic<\/a> that a trade is off the table.<\/p>\n \u201cMyles is a career Brown,\u201d Berry said. \u201cHe is one of the faces of our organization. I think we\u2019ve been very clear both past and present in terms of our feelings. I understand all the questions. I\u2019ll be honest, I don\u2019t really want to waste a ton more breath on the topic.\u201d<\/p>\n The idea of trading Garrett for the right price is something the Browns at least have to consider. Coming off eight wins over the last two seasons, Cleveland has a long way to go to be a serious contender, which is what Garrett seeks. He could also bring back multiple first-round picks, which could help aid in a rebuild.<\/p>\n The Browns have mandatory minicamp scheduled for June, which Garrett is contractually obligated to attend.<\/p>\n \n\t\t\tJ.R.
