on Trade for Fano, Mauigoa to Protect Mahomes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t\t<img width=\"780\" height=\"437\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Andy-Reid-115-e1772199932523.jpg\" class=\"attachment-featured-image size-featured-image wp-post-image\" alt=\"Andy Reid and Chiefs connected to RB target in NFL free agency news\"   decoding=\"async\" fetchpriority=\"high\"\/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tGetty\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/kansas-city-chiefs\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Kansas City Chiefs<\/a> head coach <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/kansas-city-chiefs\/andy-reid-best-coaches-sean-mcvay\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Andy Reid<\/a> is heading into the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">NFL<\/a> draft this week with zero illusions about what he needs to do to protect an injured <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/nfl\/player\/patrick-mahomes\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Patrick Mahomes<\/a> and rebuild the league\u2019s latest dynasty after a shocking 6-11 campaign in 2025.<\/p>\n<p>Kansas City is arguably the most intriguing team drafting inside the top 10 because of the value and need tensions between offensive tackle and edge-rusher, as well as the viability of a trade up with the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/arizona-cardinals\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Arizona Cardinals<\/a> at No. 3, or perhaps even a team like the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-york-giants\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">New York Giants<\/a> at No. 5.<\/p>\n<p>Todd McShay of The Ringer reported on Sunday, April 19 that Reid is all-in on shoring up the offensive line with the team\u2019s first pick, which is currently slated at No. 9 overall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI am told, again on really good authority, Andy Reid is hell-bent \u2026 on figuring out this offensive line and protecting a quarterback who is the epicenter of everything that is success,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/theringer.com\/todd-mcshay\/show\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">McShay said<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>According to McShay and co-host Steve Muench, the player Reid will target is either <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/detroit-lions\/penei-sewell-spencer-fano-nfl-draft\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Spencer Fano<\/a> of Utah or <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/philadelphia-eagles\/francis-mauigoa-nfl-draft-trade-predictions\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Francis Mauigoa<\/a> of Miami.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cIf the Chiefs don\u2019t move up to three, what if they go to five to get ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/cleveland-browns\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Browns<\/a>?\u201d McShay asked.<\/p>\n<p>Cleveland owns the No. 6 overall pick and is in the market for an offensive tackle as well, which the Browns may select in that spot if they don\u2019t get a good enough trade offer to move back themselves.<\/p>\n<p>Chiefs Could Look to Trade Up to No. 3 for Pass-Rusher Like David Bailey, No. 5 for Tackle Like Spencer Fano<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5619127\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-5619127\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/GettyImages-2243628195-e1763695529380.jpg\" alt=\"David Bailey\" width=\"782\" height=\"441\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5619127\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyTexas Tech edge-rusher David Bailey.<\/p>\n<p>As part of a roundabout explanation for his thinking, McShay noted that Chiefs general manager Brett Veach is potentially inclined to deal up with the Cardinals, who badly want to get out of the No. 3 spot, to select an edge-rusher like <a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/kansas-city-chiefs\/david-bailey-arizona-cardinals-trade-rumors-draft\/\" target=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">David Bailey<\/a> of Texas Tech.<\/p>\n<p>That topic, McShay said, has received considerable credence in conversations he\u2019s had with different front office people across the league.<\/p>\n<p>However, McShay also noted that the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/new-york-giants\/\" title=\"Giants\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"231408\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Giants<\/a> may be interested in Ohio State safety Caleb Downs with their first pick. New York just traded defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence to the <a class=\"wpil_keyword_link\" href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/sports\/nfl\/cincinnati-bengals\/\" title=\"Cincinnati Bengals\" data-wpil-keyword-link=\"linked\" data-wpil-monitor-id=\"231407\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Cincinnati Bengals<\/a> for the 10th selection, which means the Giants now own pick Nos. 5 and 10.<\/p>\n<p>New York is a strong suitor for Buckeyes linebacker Sonny Styles at No. 5, but might consider dipping from that spot to No. 9 in a deal with Kansas City that brings back the Chiefs\u2019 No. 29 pick in Round 1, then drafting Downs instead.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf the Giants really want Caleb Downs \u2026 you can get him at No. 9,\u201d McShay continued.<\/p>\n<p>In that scenario, the Giants would hold selections 9, 10 and 29 in Round 1.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Chiefs would move up to the fifth position, leapfrogging Cleveland, and draft their offensive tackle of choice. Kansas City would still hold the 40th selection in Round 2 and could probably get back a mid-rounder in a deal with New York swapping pick No. 9 for No. 5.<\/p>\n<p>Chiefs Could Face Tough Decision Between OTs Spencer Fano, Francis Mauigoa in NFL Draft<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-5874531\" class=\"size-inline wp-image-5874531\" data-lazy-load=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/www.rawchili.com\/nfl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/1776676233_828_Spencer-Fano-e1775088456994.jpg\" alt=\"Latest Giants NFL draft rumors involve Spencer Fano\" width=\"782\" height=\"440\"\/><\/p>\n<p id=\"caption-attachment-5874531\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">GettyUtah offensive tackle Spencer Fano.<\/p>\n<p>Fano is the No. 1 prospect at offensive tackle in this year\u2019s class, according to Dane Brugler of The Athletic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFano has the feet, demeanor and recovery balance of a starting NFL tackle,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/interactive\/the-beast-2026\/player\/spencer-fano-utah-offensive-tackle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external nofollow\">Brugler wrote<\/a>. \u201cHe also has a knack for losing slowly, despite possessing average length and core strength. He has the talent to be an immediate NFL starter at right tackle or guard.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"overall__text svelte-xw4sel\">However, Mauigoa is Brugler\u2019s No. 2 tackle prospect and rated nearly as high on his big board \u2014 Fano is No. 8 overall, while Mauigoa is No. 11.<\/p>\n<p class=\"overall__text svelte-xw4sel\">\u201cMauigoa is a durable blocker with coordinated movements, excellent play strength and the finishing mentality to match,\u201d Brugler added. \u201cThough his college tape says he can stay outside at right tackle, his skill set would be maximized inside at guard in the NFL.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\n\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/heavy.com\/author\/maxdible1\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Max Dible<\/a> covers the NFL, NBA and MLB for Heavy.com, with a focus on the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns.
