Deion wants the Browns to take a WR at (No.) 6 because, obviously, that helps out Shedeur.”

Carnell Tate Safer WR Prospect Than Jordyn Tyson for Browns Inside Top 10

GettyArizona State wide receiver Jordyn Tyson.

Tyson has a history at the University of Colorado, where Deion Sanders is the head coach, which is worth noting. Cleveland is in the market for a No. 1 wideout to place alongside/ahead of Jerry Jeudy in that position group, both in the short-term and the longterm, which is worth mentioning as well.

That said, Carnell Tate of Ohio State is the more frequently mocked WR target to the Browns with pick No. 6 because he is simply the safer play from a health and production standpoint.

Evaluating the NFL success of a handful of OSU receivers currently dominating the league and projecting that onto Tate isn’t necessarily a sound argument, as he is a different player with different circumstances and skill sets, etc.

That said, the Buckeyes have proven such a factory for standout pro wideouts, and Tate’s abilities (not the least of which is his durability) has top scouts believing in him as a potential WR1 at the highest level, which is a status so many of his recent predecessors have achieved.

There is little question that Tyson is the flashier option, but he’s also the less certain option. Browns GM Andrew Berry took a practical approach to last year’s draft by hunting prospects he was sure he could count on across Days 1 and 2, a strategy that paid off in the form of perhaps the best class in the league in 2025.

Thus, it makes sense that Berry would take the can’t-miss route with Tate over the high-ceiling, high-risk route with Tyson if Cleveland sticks and picks at No. 6.

Browns Exceedingly Likely Candidate to Make First-Round Trade

GettyCleveland Browns general manager Andrew Berry.

There is also the possibility of the Browns trading down to consider.

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reported a high likelihood of that outcome during an interview with ESPN Cleveland Monday.

“I was told by a source with the team that it would be shortsighted to assume that they’re just going to fulfill two needs with their two first-round picks and just go from there,” Fowler said. “They’re very open to a surprise here.”

There could be several opportunities to find value by moving down from No. 6 into the early-to-mid-teens, where the Browns could still get ahead of what The Ringer’s Todd McShay expects to be a run on the offensive tackle position that will begin somewhere around, or shortly after, the mid-point of Round 1.

That would mean a Cleveland trade back, the Browns picking an offensive tackle first and then looking at one of the quality WR options a tier below Tyson, Tate and Makai Lemon when the team makes its second first-round pick at No. 24.

Max Dible covers the NFL, NBA and MLB for Heavy.com, with a focus on the Green Bay Packers, Minnesota Vikings, Chicago Bears and Cleveland Browns.
