Well, sitting at No. 27 this season, the San Francisco 49ers have that dilemma on their hands, as they look to add to the roster in the 2026 NFL Draft.

Looking at mock drafts ahead of the week, many are looking at offensive linemen, wide receivers, and defensive linemen for the 49ers. All three of those positions make sense for San Francisco.

At offensive line, the 49ers need a future replacement for Trent Williams, and starting left tackles are hard to find outside of the early rounds of the draft. But it all comes down to how the board falls on Thursday in the first round.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, general manager John Lynch spoke on the team’s roster building this offseason, which has given them flexibility in the draft.

“I think in general, what [we did in] free agency this year, what signing a guy like Trent and having some finality there probably leaves you a little more comfortable in various scenarios. But I think what I liked about what we did in free agency this year is that there’s not a ton of needs,” Lynch said.

A goal of the team has been to head into the draft without glaring holes that force the 49ers to draft more for need than select the best players in the draft. While Lynch understands the importance of having some ready-now players and others being potential starters in the future, the plans are wide open this offseason after a quality free agency period.

“Well, I think what you try to do is position your team so that you just don’t have glaring holes where like we have to take this position,” Lynch added. “There’s some comfort in that and I think it gives you more of a belief and a comfort in just picking the best players. You can’t go wrong with picking good football players.

“Obviously, it’s a combination of all those things (picking guys who can play now and have future starters). It’s short term, it’s long term. But I think having that in place, some of the things we’ve done this offseason gives us a great ability to go in with really a mindset of taking the best player, not just saying we’ve got to come out with this position.”

We’ll see how the 49ers operate this weekend, but they’ve got some optionality with their six picks, which could even result in some trades up and down the board.

One of the biggest debates when it comes to the NFL Draft is between ready-now players and potential.…

[2080
4955,220,583,304,7,2367,2810,8072,700,1493,6,1515,9115,2392,1161,252,2624,2623,2983
0":"post-870853","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-san-francisco-49ers","8":"tag-2026-nfl-draft","9":"tag-49ers","10":"tag-alfred-collins","11":"tag-christian-kirk","12":"tag-football","13":"tag-jacob-cowing","14":"tag-john-lynch","15":"tag-jordan-watkins","16":"tag-mike-evans","17":"tag-mykel-williams","18":"tag-nfl","19":"tag-nick-bosa","20":"tag-osa-odighizuwa","21":"tag-ricky-pearsall","22":"tag-san-francisco","23":"tag-san-francisco-49ers","24":"tag-sanfrancisco","25":"tag-sanfrancisco49ers","26":"tag-trent-williams
["GET
