The draft is just days away and there isn\u2019t a concrete answer as to what the Jaguars<\/a> will do at pick 56. James Gladstone<\/a> is no stranger to waiting in the draft while being able to select impact players. As shown by his first draft selection, trading up to get Travis Hunter<\/a>, he is not afraid to be aggressive and take a swing on the player he wants.<\/p>\n

The Jaguars have pressing needs on the defensive side of the football, but likely will not be selecting the best player in the class at their respective positions. Players with a wide range of projections could make the Jaguars feel aggressive enough to draft a win-now player.<\/p>\n

Three Players the Jaguars Could Trade Up For<\/p>\n

Jacob Rodriguez (Linebacker)
\nPick 56, Pick 100<\/p>\n

All-American and Heisman Trophy finalist Jacob Rodriguez<\/a> is arguably the best fit for the Jaguars defense. In 2025, he led all of college football with seven forced fumbles, led the Big-12 with 63 solo tackles, deflected six passes, and had 11 tackles for loss. He is an excellent tackler in the open field, can diagnose plays extremely quickly, and is a turnover machine. Rodriguez could slide into Devin Lloyd\u2019s role with ease and improve the Jaguars\u2019 defense immediately.<\/p>\n

Rodriguez is projected to be taken early in the second round, so the Jaguars would have to give up their 56th pick and Pick 100 in the third round in order to make this trade work. However, they still have two third round picks available to them, and they would be able to secure their linebacker of the future.<\/p>\n

Zion Young (Edge rusher)
\nPick 56, Pick 81, Pick 124<\/p>\n

Zion Young<\/a> is projected to be taken early in the second round or even late in the first round. Young had a breakout season in 2025, racking up 16.5 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles. He showed the ability to line up at edge as well as defensive tackle and still make an impact, which would pair perfectly with Anthony Campanile\u2019s<\/a> defense. Should Young make it to Day two of the draft, there is a high likelihood he will be taken early.<\/p>\n

His projected draft status along with the league-wide need for a premium position will require the Jaguars to give up more capital. This may be viewed as too much capital to trade for one player, but it would fix one of the Jaguars\u2019 biggest problems on their roster.<\/p>\n

Peter Woods (Defensive tackle)
\nPick 56, Pick 88, Pick 164<\/p>\n

The Jaguars have a glaring need at interior pass rusher, and Peter Woods<\/a> would be a major upgrade at the position. He has a near-perfect mix of size, strength, athleticism. He\u2019s also a force in the run game as well as the pass rush. Because of the difficulty in finding elite interior pass rushers, teams will be hunting to draft Woods early.
