As the 2026 NFL Draft draws near, the New York Jets find themselves at the center of league‑wide intrigue.

With the Las Vegas Raiders widely expected to select quarterback Fernando Mendoza at No. 1, the real drama begins at pick No. 2 — where the Jets are positioned to dictate the direction of the entire first round.

According to team senior advisor Rick Spielman, New York’s decision is down to two elite defensive prospects: Arvell Reese and David Bailey.

Jets’ No. 2 Pick Will “Control the Draft,” Says Rick Spielman

Spielman, the former general manager of both the Dolphins and Vikings, made it clear that the Jets’ internal discussions are nearly complete.

He emphasized that the organization understands the magnitude of the moment — and the ripple effects it will have across the league.

He noted that while Mendoza is the near‑certain top pick, the Jets’ choice between Reese and Bailey will set the tone for the rest of the night.

With multiple teams reportedly calling about a potential trade‑up, New York holds one of the most powerful bargaining chips in the draft.

Arvell Reese: Versatile, NFL‑Ready, and Built for Modern Defenses

Reese enters the draft as one of the most intriguing defensive prospects in years.

A hybrid defender with the ability to play on the edge or as an off‑ball linebacker, he brings rare versatility to a league increasingly defined by matchup‑driven schemes.

Analysts have praised Reese’s football IQ, physicality, and experience in a pro‑style system at Ohio State — a background that could allow him to transition quickly into an NFL role.

His ability to disrupt both the run and pass makes him a potential cornerstone for a Jets defense seeking a new identity.

David Bailey: The Draft’s Most Explosive Pure Pass Rusher

If Reese is the Swiss Army knife, Bailey is the heat‑seeking missile.

Widely regarded as the best pure pass rusher in the 2026 class, Bailey’s burst, bend, and closing speed have drawn comparisons to some of the league’s elite edge defenders.

While he is less polished against the run, Bailey’s ability to pressure quarterbacks is exactly the kind of premium skill that teams covet at the top of the draft.

For a Jets team eager to disrupt opposing offenses, Bailey represents a high‑ceiling, high‑impact option.

Trade Possibilities Add Another Layer of Intrigue

Spielman acknowledged that multiple teams have reached out about moving up to No. 2 — a sign of how valuable the pick has become.

With six franchises holding multiple first‑round selections, the Jets could find themselves fielding aggressive offers right up until they are on the clock.

Still, Spielman expressed confidence that whether the Jets stay put or trade down, they are positioned to land a “great football player” who can help reshape the franchise’s future.

Jets Hold the Draft’s Most Pivotal Decision

With the draft set to begin in Pittsburgh, all eyes will be on New York.

Whether they choose the versatility of Arvell Reese or the pass‑rushing dynamism of David Bailey, the Jets’ decision at No. 2 will reverberate throughout the league — and could define the next era of Jets football.

[2051
4955,7,118219,50489,118220,226,1917,255,2321,2097,6
post-872633","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-new-york-jets","tag-2026-nfl-draft","tag-football","tag-gi","tag-giants-draft","tag-giants-draft-2026","tag-jets","tag-new-york","tag-new-york-jets","tag-newyork","tag-newyorkjets","tag-nfl
["GET
