During the pair’s first two seasons together, both players achieved individual success as they had their best statistical seasons of their careers while the Dolphins made the postseason.

Unfortunately, in 2024 and 2025, both players declined as Miami failed to make the postseason. The 2025 season in particular was rough for the pair as Tagovailoa struggled and was eventually benched in favor of seventh-round rookie quarterback Quinn Ewers, while Hill suffered a dislocated knee injury that ended his season in Week 4.

Following the season, Miami’s new front office, led by general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan, decided it was time for the Dolphins to part ways with the pair as both were released. While Tagovailoa was quick to find a team, as he signed a one-year contract with the Atlanta Falcons, Tyreek Hill remains a free agent. However, following the 2026 NFL Draft, one team is being urged to reunite with the former Dolphins wide receiver.

Kansas City Chiefs Urged to Sign Former Miami Dolphins Wide Receiver Tyreek Hill

Following the draft, CBS Sports writer Bryan DeArdo listed ten moves that should occur after the draft. One of those was the Kansas City Chiefs signing former Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. DeArdo wrote:

“It’s been a quiet offseason for Hill, who is still working his way back from last year’s horrific, season-ending knee injury. At age 32 and coming off a major injury, Hill’s best chance at playing this season might be back in Kansas City in a complementary role.

The Chiefs aren’t lacking at receiver, but can you really ever have too many wideouts in today’s NFL? The answer is no, which is one reason why a Hill-Chiefs reunion is likely. Hill’s rapport with Patrick Mahomes doesn’t hurt, either.”

Of course, Hill spent the first six seasons of his career with the Chiefs before being traded to the Miami Dolphins in exchange for five draft picks. With the Dolphins, Hill was selected as a first-team All-Pro twice and broke the franchise record for single-season receiving yards twice.

Miami Dolphins Wide Receivers

With a $51 million cap hit looming, and coming off a dislocated knee, it made sense for the Dolphins to move off Hill. However, Miami’s receiver room will now look very different following his release, alongside the team’s trade of wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to the Denver Broncos.

In free agency, the Dolphins signed veteran receivers Jalen Tolbert and Tutu Atwell, both of whom have had moderate levels of success in the NFL. Miami will hope that the team can get some production out of their rookie wide receivers. The team invested three draft picks in receivers as they selected Caleb Douglas and Chris Bell in the third round, then Kevin Coleman Jr. in the fifth round.

Douglas was somewhat of a surprising pick by the Dolphins, as the team selected him with the 75th overall pick, despite being ranked as the No. 285-ranked prospect by The Ringer’s NFL Draft analyst Todd McShay.

Jose Esquer Jose Esquer is a Mexican-American sportswriter and communications student based in San Diego, CA.
