After the Giants\u2019 two top-10 selections, defensive line felt like a position to watch for New York<\/a> at one point. Ohio State\u2019s\u00a0Kayden McDonald\u00a0had the Giants on his radar of teams to potentially select him. One team exec believed the Giants might have been a threat to trade up for McDonald. Houston<\/a> traded up to No. 36 \u2014 one spot ahead of New York \u2014 to select McDonald. But the Giants had a group of players they liked at 37 \u2014 most notably their eventual pick, Tennessee corner\u00a0Colton Hood. \u201cNo, Hood was our guy,\u201d a team source said when asked about the defensive line rumblings.<\/p>\n

A few receiver coaches messaged me this week that they liked the Giants\u2019 pick of Notre Dame\u2019s\u00a0Malachi Fields<\/a>\u00a0in the third round. \u201cDownfield playmaking, plays faster than he ran and was able to go up and make plays on the ball,\u201d an NFC assistant coach said. \u201cCould win isolate routes outside the numbers.\u201d<\/p>\n

10. J.C. Davis, Offensive Tackle, New York Giants. Davis took the long road \u2014 junior college to New Mexico to Illinois \u2014 and rewarded every stop along the way, earning First-Team All-Big Ten honors in 2025 and ending his college career as PFF\u2019s third-highest graded left tackle in the nation during the regular season. The Giants snagged him in the sixth round at pick 192, a full 38 spots later than consensus boards projected, giving New York depth and insurance behind\u00a0Andrew\u00a0Thomas\u00a0at one of the most premium positions in football.<\/p>\n

9. Francis Mauigoa, Offensive Tackle, New York Giants. Multiple analysts considered Mauigoa the top offensive lineman in this entire draft class, and some mock drafts had him going as high as third overall to the Arizona Cardinals<\/a>. At 6-foot-6 and 315 pounds, he is a bruising, reliable road grader who\u00a0Joe\u00a0Schoen\u00a0called one of his top-five players in the entire draft, and New York landed him at 10.<\/p>\n

The Giants\u2019 draft could come down to what you think of Arvell Reese, the edge rusher they selected at No. 5, which was later than most mocks had him lasting.\u00a0 \u201cThey should have drafted Sonny Styles<\/a>, because he\u2019s the one that got Reese lined up every day, and I think was better than Reese,\u201d a third exec said. \u201cReese just disappeared in some of those games. They are talking about playing him off the ball, but if they wanted an off-the-ball linebacker, take Styles. He\u2019d be the leader, the captain, the culture, the play style \u2014 everything you want from John Harbaugh\u2019s guy.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI love what they did,\u201d a fourth exec said. \u201cThey are going to run a lot of exotic fronts where they are positionless chess pieces, so you don\u2019t know who is rushing. That is going to be a bear to block up between (Brian) Burns and Abdul (Carter) and (Kayvon) Thibodeaux and Arvell. He has the physical tools to do that.\u201d<\/p>\n

20. New York Giants. The New York Giants are in the opening stages of the John Harbaugh era, and the head coach has wasted no time making an imprint on the roster, including defensively. The trade that sent Dexter Lawrence<\/a> to Cincinnati<\/a> left the Giants with a huge hole in the middle of a defense that was already the NFC\u2019s worst run defense in 2025. That\u2019s going to ramp up the pressure on inside linebackers Tremaine Edmunds<\/a> and Arvell Reese, who are both in their first year with the team.<\/p>\n

Reese, who was the fifth overall pick in this year\u2019s draft, also has some ability as an edge-rusher\u2014a position where the team is loaded. Abdul Carter<\/a> and Kayvon Thibodeaux<\/a> were both top-10 picks by the G-Men, and veteran Brian Burns<\/a> was second in the NFL last year with 16.5 sacks. New York also has some potential in the secondary. Paulson Adebo<\/a> is a solid player, and the Giants took Colton Hood in the second round of this year\u2019s draft, while free-agent addition Greg Newsome<\/a> was a first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns<\/a> in 2021. This has the makings of a Jekyll-and-Hyde unit\u2014a problem for opponents against the pass, but problematic against the run.<\/p>\n

The Giants interest in former superstar receiver Odell Beckham Jr. is real and extends beyond whatever the oft-injured veteran can provide in a limited on-field role, according to several NFL execs who know New York head coach John Harbaugh well.<\/p>\n

\u201cDude, look how many receivers they brought into that locker room (in Baltimore<\/a>) when John was there,\u201d one longtime personnel executive said of Harbaugh\u2019s near 20-year run with the Ravens<\/a>, in which he routinely brought in receivers near the end of their career.\u00a0\u201cHe loves this guy. This is about more than football.\u201d<\/p>\n

The\u00a0New York Giants\u00a0will be transitioning to Phase Three of their 2026 offseason workout program soon, but they will first conduct their rookie minicamp from May 8th through the 10th at their training facility in New Jersey.<\/p>\n
