After his sexist comments about NFL reporter Mary Kay Cabot<\/a>, free agent safety Shilo Sanders<\/a> is involved in a bankruptcy trial, and his attorney recently filed requests that \u201cseek to limit the scope of evidence that is allowed\u201d for it.<\/p>\n

USA Today reports that Sanders\u2019 trial comes after an incident<\/a> where he allegedly assaulted a security guard while he was still a minor in 2015, which led him to file for bankruptcy in 2023 with more than $11 million in debt.<\/p>\n

According to court records, one request is about Sanders\u2019 \u201cPrior and Subsequent Disciplinary History,\u201d while another request said it concerns his \u201cTime at The Letot Juvenile Detention Facility\u201d in Dallas, Texas.<\/p>\n

As USA Today notes, these requests are also known as \u201cmotions in limine.\u201d These are usually pretrial requests that ask judges \u201cto exclude or limit the evidence or arguments that will be allowed at trial so as to prevent irrelevant or inflammatory information from influencing the outcome.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sanders\u2019 upcoming trial is set for Aug. 31, 2026. Additionally, he may be involved in others on \u201cseparate issues.\u201d Sanders is hoping to potentially \u201cerase his debt.\u201d<\/p>\n

He owes money to a former security guard of his school, John Darjean. It might be an uphill battle, as USA Today notes that Darjean is \u201cfighting to collect every penny.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2015, when he was 15 years old, Sanders allegedly assaulted and injured Darjean. This happened after Darjean tried to collect his phone at school. However, Sanders claims it was done in self-defense.<\/p>\n

Darjean originally sued Sanders and his parents in 2016. However, he would later drop it from Sanders\u2019 parents in 2019. He then pressed his lawsuit against Sanders, and he was awarded a $11.89 million default judgment against him after he failed to show up to the trial in 2022.<\/p>\n

Now, Darjean is looking to collect his debt. However, Sanders is hoping to erase it by filing for bankruptcy. Darjean is pushing back against Sanders\u2019 efforts to rid himself of the debt. He claims that it stems from a \u201cwillful and malicious injury.\u201d That is not dischargeable in bankruptcy court, so Sanders could still owe the money.<\/p>\n
