The Houston Texans\u00a0<\/a>will host\u00a0one joint practice\u00a0with the Carolina Panthers<\/a> ahead of their respective\u00a0preseason game\u00a0at NRG Stadium in August. They will also head to the Motor City for a preseason practice ahead of their matchup with the Detroit Lions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Now, third-year head coach DeMeco Ryans recently discussed the plans for these joint practices and how it’ll benefit the team during training camp.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will do one day with both teams,” Ryans said Wednesday. “Excited to work against those teams. You get different defensive looks from both teams. Different offensive looks and you get to do it in a competitive environment where you\u2019re not live on the quarterback. It\u2019s the safest way and I feel like we can get really good work for our starters against other teams. I\u2019m excited to go against the Panthers<\/a>, excited to go against the Lions<\/a>.”<\/p>\n

Houston has participated in joint practices the past two years, hosting a one-day event with the Los Angeles Rams and a two-day event with the Miami Dolphins in 2023. Ryans’ relationship with both coaches was possibly a factor in the practices, and it’s another reason why the Texans<\/a> could be practicing once more.<\/p>\n

Ryans praised both Panthers coach Dave Canales and Lions coach Dan Campbell for their growth and leadership on and off the field.<\/p>\n

“Dave has done a great job there, so I\u2019m excited to see him. I think they\u2019re on the rise and has done a really good job with what he has had so far, so I\u2019m excited to see that team come in,” Ryans said. “We know what the Lions are about. Coach Campbell and his energy and spirit as a head coach it\u2019s just second to none. I\u2019m excited to work with both guys and I think we can gain a lot out of both practices.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Texans return to OTA practice on Friday morning.<\/p>\n
