One of the biggest offseason acquisitions for the Las Vegas Raiders<\/a>, cornerback Taron Johnson<\/a>, is reportedly in the midst of a holdout.<\/p>\n

According to the California Post\u2019s Vincent Bonsignore<\/a>, Johnson has been absent from the voluntary portion of the offseason program due to his desire for a new deal.<\/p>\n

\u201cPer sources: CB Taron Johnson\u2019s absence at Raiders voluntary offseason workouts is contract related. The $18M he\u2019s on the books for in \u201926 & \u201927 is non guaranteed. Makes sense he\u2019s looking for more security,\u201d Bonsignore wrote.<\/p>\n

Of course, Johnson does not yet have to report, anyway, because this portion of the offseason is voluntary.<\/p>\n

That will change next month, though, when mandatory minicamp begins<\/a> on June 6.<\/p>\n

Johnson was acquired via trade with the Buffalo Bills<\/a> earlier this offseason after the Bills decided they would part ways with the veteran corner.<\/p>\n

The Raiders sent the Bills a sixth-round pick in exchange for Johnson and a seventh-rounder.<\/p>\n

Johnson is under contract for two more years, with a base salary of $8.1 million in 2026 and $9 million in 2027, according to Over The Cap<\/a>.<\/p>\n

However, he has just $1.175 million left in guaranteed money, all of which comes this year. As Bonsignore points out, that is likely his point of contention.<\/p>\n

The Raiders remain in good shape financially after starting the offseason with a boatload of cap space. Las Vegas<\/a> currently sits with $24.4 million in funds to work with.<\/p>\n

Taron Johnson\u2019s role with the Las Vegas Raiders\"\"<\/p>\n

Johnson has widely been viewed as one of the better slot cornerbacks in the NFL during his career, as evidenced by his second-team All-Pro selection<\/a> in 2023.<\/p>\n

The 29-year-old had another strong season in 2025 after giving up a completion rate of 63.6% and a passer rating of 94.7 in coverage, numbers that mirrored his All-Pro season.<\/p>\n

The Raiders tried multiple players at slot cornerback last season, including Darnay Holmes<\/a>, but none of them had much success, which made the position a focal point in 2026.<\/p>\n

Johnson certainly has the ability to shore up the position for Las Vegas, but, first things first, the Raiders have to get his contract situation figured out.<\/p>\n
