FRISCO \u2013 Until Thursday, we thought we\u2019d heard it all about Dallas Cowboys<\/a> coach Brian Schottenheime<\/a>r\u2019s efforts to organically build what he hopes will be \u201cthe greatest culture in professional sports.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last week we were told about Schottenheimer moving the ping pong table from The Star in Frisco\u2019s players\u2019 lounge to the locker room. And the putting contests. And the 10-foot basketball goal erected in the players\u2019 lounge.<\/p>\n

Now comes word that on last week\u2019s first day of organized team activities, Schottenheimer surprised players by taking them on a field trip of sorts, roughly 10 minutes from The Star. <\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t lie: He [Schottenheimer] started off hot,\u201d fourth-year guard Tyler Smith<\/a> said Thursday. \u201cWe went paintballing on the first day. I thought that was like a crazy thing. It\u2019s never happened before.\u201d<\/p>\n

Instead of going into team meetings or running drills on The Star\u2019s practice fields, players competed on a different kind of playing field, some more seriously than others.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best at paintball? Markquese Bell,\u201d Smith said of the fourth-year safety. \u201cOh, my God: Markquese Bell could probably go to SEAL Team 6.\u201d<\/p>\n

Smith said the entire team had a blast. It certainly was a way for rookies and free agent acquisitions to get to know veteran Cowboys and vice versa.<\/p>\n

Smith, who stands 6-6 and weighs 332 pounds, figures he\u2019s not a candidate for any special forces, paintball or otherwise.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guys were going crazy,\u201d he said with a laugh. \u201cI\u2019m not the best paintball guy myself. I\u2019m a big target.\u201d<\/p>\n
