Giants head coach John Harbaugh Noah K. Murray for NY Post<\/p>\nAs if the standing ovation that John Harbaugh received Monday from success-starved Giants season ticket holders wasn\u2019t loud enough, he then said the magic words sure to set off a frenzy.<\/p>\n
Asked by a fan about the Giants finally turning around their losing fortunes against the Cowboys and Eagles, Harbaugh pumped his fist in the air as a \u201cCowboys suck!\u201d chant rang out in the crowd at Giants Town Hall in the Beacon Theatre.<\/p>\n
\u201cI could [not] care less about what\u2019s happened last year or the year before that or 10 years before that,\u201d Harbaugh said. \u201cAll I care about is tomorrow\u2019s practice, because if tomorrow\u2019s practice is the way it\u2019s supposed to be, that will be one more step in the direction of being a good enough football team to kick the Cowboys\u2019 ass.\u201d<\/p>\n
You can imagine the roar that followed.<\/p>\n
Harbaugh, who will coach the Giants in their first OTA practice Tuesday, will make his true Giants debut in Week 1 against the Cowboys on \u201cSunday Night Football\u201d at MetLife Stadium. <\/p>\n

The Giants are 5-18-1 against the NFC East over the last five seasons and have not won the division since 2011.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat hate is well placed,\u201d Harbaugh said. \u201cCould you add a little bit for the Washington Commanders, too? Throw them in there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Kayvon Thibodeaux joined in the rivalry trash talk, too.<\/p>\n
\u201cI hate them,\u201d Thibodeaux said. \u201cI think it\u2019s the right place at the right time with the right people, with the right coaches, with the right fans. This is the perfect year for a miracle story.\u201d<\/p>\n
Here are five other notable things said:<\/p>\n
1. Cam Skattebo\u2019s big promises<\/p>\n
For all the fanfare that he created with his wild screams, backflips and punishing runs as a rookie, Skattebo only rushed 101 times for 410 yards and five touchdowns in eight games before suffering his season-ending dislocated ankle and fractured tibia.<\/p>\n
What\u2019s in store for an encore?<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen I play 17-plus games this year,\u201d Skattebo said, slyly projecting a playoff berth, \u201cit\u2019s going to be 300 carries for over 2,000 yards.\u201d<\/p>\n
If Skattebo has that kind of year, the Giants can dream big.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery single time I\u2019ve gone to a new team,\u201d Skattebo said, \u201cI\u2019ve won a championship in the second year, so\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n
Jaxson Dart liked the sound of it.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt sounds like we\u2019re not going to be throwing the ball a lot,\u201d Dart quipped. \u201cWe\u2019re going to keep giving it to Skatt until they can stop it.\u201d<\/p>\n

Skattebo said the \u201cmental battle\u201d is the hardest part of his rehab.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m a little ways off. Not too far,\u201d Skattebo said. \u201cWeek 1, I\u2019ll be ready to go.\u201d<\/p>\n
2. Boos for Dexter Lawrence<\/p>\n
Just like two years ago \u2014 after Saquon Barkley signed with the Eagles \u2014 fans booed at the mention of Dexter Lawrence, who demanded a trade. <\/p>\n
He was sent to the Bengals, and the Giants pivoted to signing four free agents, including projected starters Shelby Harris and D.J. Reader.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s right,\u201d Harbaugh said as boos got louder. \u201cHe\u2019s got a life to live. We brought guys in here that wanted to be here.\u201d<\/p>\n
3. Hard days ahead<\/p>\n
Former head coach Brian Daboll tried hard to be a players\u2019 coach, which resulted in light practice workloads.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis s\u2013t is different,\u201d Thibodeaux said. \u201cIt\u2019s hard. It\u2019s different in a great way. The future is now.\u201d<\/p>\n

One fan hollered out, \u201cIt\u2019s about time,\u201d which drew a laugh from the crowd.<\/p>\n
\u201cEverything that he wants the team to be is himself when it comes to intensity, attention to detail,\u201d Dart said. \u201cFrom a player perspective, when you see a coach who is able to sacrifice a lot but has a chip on the shoulder at the same time, it\u2019s someone we can all respect and want to play for.\u201d<\/p>\n
4. Best in the NFL?<\/p>\n
It\u2019s undebatable that the Giants\u2019 strongest position is edge rusher.<\/p>\n
Next up could be inside linebacker or offensive line.<\/p>\n
But tight end? The addition of free agent Isaiah Likely to Theo Johnson, Chris Manhertz and Thomas Fidone has Harbaugh over the top excited.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere\u2019s not a better tight end group, I don\u2019t think, in the league, potentially,\u201d Harbaugh said. \u201cJaxson has a bunch of guys to go to.\u201d<\/p>\n
5. Legacy Game<\/p>\n
The Giants announced that their Legacy Game is scheduled for 1 p.m. Oct. 4 against the Cardinals. <\/p>\n
The festivities will include a 40th anniversary celebration of the 1986 Super Bowl champions, complete with a Mark Bavaro bobblehead giveaway.<\/p>\n
