With the Green Bay Packers<\/a> holding their 2026 minicamp already, hungry talents are hoping to make an impression on the practice field and prove their case for making the 53-man roster. 38 players arrived for minicamp in a field that included six 2026 NFL Draft<\/a> picks a proven veteran, and some undrafted free agents looking to make a roster.<\/p>\n

After seeing key departures to the defense in EDGE players Rashan Gary and Kingsley Enagbare along with receivers Romeo Doubs and Dontayvion Wicks, Green Bay addressed key needs during the 2026 NFL Draft. Their first pick in the second round was spent on South Carolina CB Brandon Cisse while their next two picks were dedicated to Mizzou DL Brandon McClellan and Penn State EDGE Dani Dennis-Sutton.<\/p>\n

Virginia Tech QB Kyron Drones highlighted the 10 undrafted free agent signings while tryout players included four-year WR Chase Claypool and UAB RB Isaiah Jacobs, younger brother of Packers’ star RB Josh Jacobs.<\/p>\n

Still, among all the players showcasing their talents during rookie minicamp, CB Brandon Cisse continues to be the most impressive addition to this Packers team and arguably fills their greatest need in bolstering the secondary. His ability to start from day one will be significant in creating a competitive nature inside the locker room.<\/p>\n

Cisse quickly made his way up the cornerback rankings during his time as a South Carolina Gamecock, eventually starting all 12 games in 2025 (27 tackles, 1.5 TFLs, INT, 5 PBUs, FF). With a total combine score of 79, he ranked as the No. 5 CB in all of the draft despite the Packers selecting him 52nd overall.<\/p>\n

In front of the media, Cisse has done everything the Green Bay way and is visibly excited to play for such a historic franchise. He immediately has the makings of a natural leader in the locker room and will welcome competition in a cornerback room that includes Keisean Nixon and Carrington Valentine. While he may still be a work in progress, Cisse certainly has a real chance to become the CB1 in this defense.<\/p>\n

Standing just a touch under six feet tall, Cisse had an extremely impressive showing with a 41-inch vertical and 10-foot-11 broad jump to add to his already blistering 4.41 40-yard dash. By all accounts, he has the body type and speed to contend with some of the best receivers in the game, but his versatility throughout the secondary could be his biggest strength as he likely won’t be limited to just one position out there.<\/p>\n

Early reports indicate that Cisse could be used in deeper coverage as the Packers’ defense will heavily rely on their pass rush to create pressure and force mistakes. This could allow for some grace with coverage corners like Cisse knowing his defensive line will be getting after the quarter through all four quarters.<\/p>\n

Jonathan Gannon<\/a>‘s new-look defense<\/p>\n

Brandon Cisse will also serve as the marquee addition to Jonathan Gannon’s unit in his first year as Green Bay’s defensive coordinator. Gannon inherits a defense highlighted by Micah Parsons<\/a> and is no stranger to dialing up exotic blitz packages to get to the quarterback, but he could have a multi-talented secondary player in Cisse that mimics the type of impact Derwin James or Darius Slay have made over the last few seasons.<\/p>\n

It will be interesting to see how Gannon moves Cisse around throughout this secondary, but it’s clear he’s already going to work after seeing nothing but positive results from him during minicamp. Cisse quickly separated himself as the most impressive addition both on and off the field as we’ll be watching closely to see where he ends up during this competitive cornerback battle in Green Bay.<\/p>\n
