Then I started to read the predictions from the reporters who cover this team daily and learned my prediction mimic theirs in many ways.

What I produced was a 9-8 finish for the Saints, and that was the consensus among the writers who covered the team.

How did I get to this prediction?

Well, let us remember the Saints have the second easiest schedule in the NFL, giving them the opportunity to play a myriad of winnable games.

So, let us break it down.

After losing road games to Detroit and Baltimore to start the season, the Saints can reel off seven straight wins. New Orleans has three straight games at home against Las Vegas, Atlanta (Monday Night Football) and Minnesota, all winnable games.

Then they travel to play the New York Giants before going to Paris to play Pittsburgh. After the bye week, the Saints are home against Cleveland and Carolina.

Like most of the predictions I read, I had the Saints 7-2 at this point in the season. I know it sounds crazy, but it is possible. In the first nine games, only Detroit and Pittsburgh had winning records last season. Plus, counting the game in Paris, the Saints have six home games during the opening stretch. Play well at home and win some games, right?

Now, from this point of the schedule things get dicey due to five of the final eight games are on the road and the competition is better.

I have the Saints losing the next five games. The slide starts with road games at Chicago and Cincinnati before losing to Green Bay at home, followed by losing to Carolina and Tampa Bay on the road.

At this point, the Saints are 7-7 still in the hunt for a division title but on life support for a wild card.

I have the Saints ending their season with a win over Arizona at home, a win against Atlanta on the road and a loss to Tampa Bay at home.

So, I have the Saints with a 9-8 record but with Tampa Bay spoiling their division title and playoff hopes at the end of the season.

Once the Saints play preseason games, I will revisit my prediction after seeing the direction this team is heading in terms of improvement.

But if the end of the 2025 season was not a fluke, with this schedule, a winning season in 2026 is possible for the Saints.

_____________________________________________________________________________

Teddy Renois is an award-winning Sports Journalist.
